Well there are a few on ebay atm and I've sent a few emails to the sellers asking the usual if they are complete engins with ancillaries and ecu, loom etc and got one message back about a 1999 mk1 1.2 16v engine that had no loom with it.

Cheap engine - £120 with a claimed 60k on the clock but with no Loom is that asking for trouble and hard work?

Loving these 1.2 16v engines though theres tons of them and not too expensive either!

Are they all FIRE engines btw?

They are all FIRE engines. As long as you get another complete loom from another car it shouldn't be a problem I dont think, you could always run it using a carb, you wouldn't need to change your fuel tank or lines then either. Although not sure if you can do this with a 16v?

there'd be no lobe on the cam to drive a fuel pump, and no easy (read cheap) way of fitting a dizzy. there was a 1368cc 16v kicking about on carbs and dizzy, but afaik it was converted back to EFI

Now this guy knows how to modify a Panda.

Serious, serious nutjob work here.

Look at those twin-webbers!!!!!!!!

And the arches are a masterpiece too.

-edit-

Anybody seen the picture of the 1.4 FIRE engine with a con-rod sticking out the side of the crankcase!?

mad respect for this guy, he must have a bottomless pit of money to fund his project! That panda has had a nut & bolt rebuild with full rally spec

Any idea what year/type of panda that used to be?

Just looked all the way through his strip-down and rebuild pictures. The work involved is amazing. I though rebuilding VW's was a task but these guys must work out of a rally chop shop for a living.

Any guesses at how he has managed to camber the back & front wheels?

-edit-
I need those clear front lights and lenses though!!!!!!!!!!!! Where can I get a set? Mine are all foggy and faded.

Yeah, that guy has done a very good job. It's certainly one of the best i've seen in terms of overall package, especially body and shell work. I'm not totally convinced by the engine, but he doesn't explain what he has done, other than he got a new engine, ported it a lot and put huge Webers on it. :) Not convinced this is the way to go these days, but perhaps he has restrictions in the classes he might run in.

I beg to differ for £200-£500 depending on if you buy new or how lucky you are on ebay
Electronic fuel pump
fuel pressure regulator
crank trigger wheel (custom or modify a cinq's)
megajolt running ford edis system

Then you will need
Twin webers, 40s will more than do
manifold adapter for webers

Funny I have all that in the garage with a 1.2 16v ;) (just no car to put it in :bang:)

After all I think again...the best option it's engine from Punto I 75
1242ccm, 8V, MPI - easy to fit, looks the same, enough power for Panda.

I found it a very easy swap. Would do it again in the future.

Not as many engines for sale when you compare to punto 60 and the 16v versions.

Good luck getting one

Cheers

Just drove my new 1988 Panda 1000s on its 200 mile journey home!!!

Can I just say that a 1000cc FIRE engine is amazing!! Plenty of pull in every gear, and that induction/engine sound is to die for. I can't wait untill tomorrow when knocking up a straight through exhaust for it, it'll be popping and banging like a beast.

I even got the little beauty off the clock going downhill on the M6!!!!!!

-A few snags though -

The brakes are, at best, awful. Going to try bleeding them and having a general check over tomorrow.

Vibration when going over 80, getting my wheels balanced will sort that.

Also I noticed the roof lining was a little damp on one side, I think it must be leaking through the black trim line/roof bar that goes the length of the roof.

Rear suspension dampers are a little wild and lose! haha

But apart from that its great.

Perfect 1.2 16v candidate :D

Remember that it wont have a servo so the pedal will need a good hard shove compared to other cars, not to say there isnt a problem of some kind though.

Carb'd Pandas do sound brilliant, I love the sound my 750 makes, much better than my CLX which is abit whiney:yuck: Sounds like you've got the Panda bug though, you'll be wanting another one in no time:p:D
