Technical How much is too much? (antifreeze)

Bled the coolent today and it took me ages to get rid of all the air and I had to top the water/coolent quite alot because of doing this. My question is how much antifreeze is too much and can it actually damage or effect the engine in anyway if there is too much?

Too little is liable to cause damage too much is just expensive!

i believe that to much reduces the cooling effiency of the liquid. i know on me mk2 they put 50 50 mix in of paraflu and water

yup a mate once put in pure A/Freeze in his motor and it ran hot.a drain of some coolant and adding water sorted that.
suppose if 50/50 is advised then there will be a fair bit off leeway so 75/25 would probably be okay

You'r right of course 50/50 is recommended bit over the top wouldn't hurt.

don't go neat!! lucky on these cars the coolant isn't that much of it, on the essex engine in my new car it takes 18pints of coolant, thats like 9litres I believe
