Hi guys how much difference is there between driving a 1.1 eco panda and the 1.2 Dynamic panda for city work ?

More than you mght think.

I've driven both back to back; the extra torque from the 1.2 makes it far more comfortable to drive around town.

Also the 1.2 eco Pandas have A/C as standard; it's not available with the 1.1 engine.

Unless you have a compelling reason to buy one, I'd avoid the 1.1.

went to CLEMO local fiat deal to get a new mount for my punto, spoke to service manager and mentioned i was looking for a Panda and was thinking about a 1.1 he said "go for a 1.2 the 1.1 struggles" and as i go on motorway every day decided to get the 1.2 im glad i did

Thanks guys i have emailed a few dealers now with offers to see if they accept both cars are Fiat Panda 1.2 Dynamic ECO for a bit extra mpg.

Having had a 1.1, and now the 1.2, I prefer the 1.1, far more fun, and TBH I still think the 1.2 is painfully slow in the Panda.

A case of defining struggling, if driven properly the 1.1 is as capable as the 1.2 imo.

People state it has worse MPG as you've got to floor it all the time, but never had this experience myself from personal experience.

think its a case of each to his (or her) own.
best way is test drive both and see what you prefer, found my 1.2 panda was not as "lively" as my 1.2 punto ( same bhp) might have to try some injector cleaner in tank and see what happens lol

The Panda has been produced with several engine variants over the years; not all cars with the same engine size are in the same state of tune. Later 1.1/1.2's have significantly lower CO2 emissions and qualify for £30 RFL; the last of the Mk3's had the higher compression 69HP Euro5 engine used in the 1.2 500.

My comments are based specifically on the Euro4 1.1 Active & 1.2 Dynamic which, if I've understood the OP correctly, are the models they're currently considering.

Earlier models may drive quite differently - I don't know as I haven't driven them.

I test drove all variants of the Panda available before making my choice on which one to buy. For me, I didn't like the 1.1 at all. The 1.2 seemed a bit livelier. The 4x4 with the 1.2 didn't have enough lift in it for me (although I preferred this one in my heart). I opted for the Multijet as it was the engine I liked best. Had it been placed in the 4x4 in 2005, it would have been a really easy choice, but that combination wasn't available till a few years later.

There are three Panda's in the family.
Our 57 1.1 Active
Sis's 54 1.2 Dymanic
Mother in Laws 10 Dymanic Eco (with air con)

Driven them all and agree the 1.2 is more torque, just.
Turn the aircon on in the Eco and it performs worse than the 1.1 though.

Where all the family agree, the 1.1 is more "Italian" and likes to be driven that way (valves bouncing), all complain the 1.2 is a little flatter when flooring it, the older 1.2 is now sounding a little grumbly and not as zippy.

It's BS that the 1.1 struggles on the motorway, at normal legal speeds it performs great and will sit there all day without feeling short on power.
I've done many a 200+ trip, 3 or 4 up and it cruises lovely at 70mph and a bit.

Living where I do in the city, the 1.1 Active with the non painted bumpers and body in Silver is perfect, no visible scraps on the bumpers from Tescos carpark and light scratches, chips and knocks don't show as the under coat is white, looks as good as new.

The two reasons i ask is more mpg and also there is more 1.1 eco cars available than 1.2 cars on ebay and autotrader.
Also i never thought about the bumper i was looking for painted bumper as it looks better to me but i suppose like you say scratches and chips wont show on the none painted bumpers.
I haven't heard from any of the dealers i emailed with offers might be because its weekend but i do find Dealers don't answer what you ask anyway.

For MPG there's the diesel, but you'd probably kill it with soot if it's just pottering around the city, they do need their throat clearing every now and then, plus diesels are a little slower warming up, so short trips tend to be suffered in the cold.

We looked hard for ours, it's main job is for city hacking so we disgarded all the models with painted bumpers (friggin neighbours can't park properly)

We didn't need any "extras", just wanted the essensce of car, less to go wrong, so air con and all that got crossed off the list.
So it all pointed to an Active.

Dark cars tend to show up the nicks and donks as most cars are undercoated in white, so a light metallic was what needed.

I think around 2009/10 there were lots of great deals with nice discounts on 1.1 Eco Active's new.
Nearly all dealers were pushing them hard and then internet was awash with them.
Most where in white or yellow (free colour) but do have the colour coded bumpers.
I'd be tempted find one of them, perhaps a private sale before some dealer marks it up.

The last of this models Actives came with the 1.2, the 1.1 got dropped around this time, hence the discounts on the 1.1's.

Seems a little odd, but I know there was a fleet buyer of these.
We had the choice of 4, three year old Actives, all with the same sort of mileage (14K), same colour, all four had similar number plates, YD57***, YC57*** was another.
(I can't remember what the fleet name was on the log book, some holding company I think)

I've seen similar cars off a later fleet (I think WG58 & WF58 ) around too, most were silver or dark blue.
Like this, but it's up for lease

There was another lot that came in from NI at around the same time, don't know if all had there plates changed or not.

Thanks for the info, the 1.2 is 443 miles, 7 hours 8 mins away from here so a bit too far to travel.
