How good is the Punto GT?

Hi all.

I have a bravo 1.8 hlx, but now i need a small second car. Im considering a Punto 1.4GT, but i want to know more about it first. can any body tell me whats the 0-60 time, bhp, top speed, handing, realiabilty is like? Also how easy is it to tune? is it thirsty on fuel?

The punto GT is one of the fastest hot hatchs on the market (well until fiat stop making them). I've been looking in to them for a while now since i will be getting one towards the end of the year. All the reviews i read have given the little pocket rocket full marks. As for spec:

BHP: 136
0-60mph: 7.9
MPG: 35
Top Speed: 124mph
Insurance group: 14

Well i now own a 1.8 HLX like u but in the past have had a Uno kicking out 170bhp and 0-60in about 6 secs!

Fast o yes!

The puntos are very nice cars and i was going to get one. But! I have had a few friends who have had GT's and have had endless probs especially with the Turbos going. It will cost u a fortune to maintain it but i had that with my last car. Is it also worth the group 14 insurance which takes the p***!

A few facts as the above isnt strictly true.

There are three different variants of the GT1, GT2 and GT3. Each one has slightly differnt BHP. The 1st (M-Nreg) had a check interior, the 2nd (N-Preg) had a check 'sport' interior and colour coded skirts and the 3rd (R-Vreg)
had 'GT' logoed 'sport' interior, colour coded skirts and anthracite coloured wheels.

The GTs are not group 14, they are 13 and if one pulled aside my HGT at the lights, I would not be thinking 'easy'.

I used to own a Punto, and many of my friends own them without 'turbo problems'... infact I was (and still am) a member of the PuntoGT forum and Ive never heard of anyone experiencing problems with the turbo.
