General Hey :-) Thinking of buying Stilo Active Sport

not so much a hello thread.... well not just yet

I'm hoping for some help and advice, thinking of buying 04 plate 1.6 fiat stilo active sport with 32k on the clock.

Whats the deal with them? Are they good? Is there common faults with them? What's active sport owners point of view on them

active sport was just the posh name for a base model with a couple of extras like alloys. The 1.6 owners would be best commenting

one thing to look for is how many owners this stilos had, if its more than two with that mileage, its likely to be a pup

Check the aircon is working from hot to cold in a minute. They tend to have a problem with aircon pipe £100 plus labour havent checked it when I was buying my car and my aircon dont work :bang:
Check the front tyres if they are unevently worn that is on the inner edges close to engine if so dont buy the car the car doesnt track correctly.

You will get 30 mpg on average which aint a lot consider buying a diesel instead a jtd model because it will give you 50+ mpg.

Find a good and reliable mechanic as the car will be at the garage quite a bit. Expect airbag warning message to come on all the time.PROBLEMS WITH SUSPENSION are also common. You will need two change all four ignition coils every two years or so £140 with labour.

If you fancy being on this forum and spending quite a bit of time on it buy a stilo petrol 1.6 if not go for something more reliable. They are quite quick though and aggressive drive not common therefeore you will see people watching your car all the time, but pssst dont tell them what they can find under the bonett lol hope this advice helps.

tracking is easily corrected (find a garage that does 4 wheel computer alignment.. i use northway tires and can recommend them.. it'll cost about £30.. but Stilos are very sensitive i.e. a curb knock at 20 mph is likely to result in another visit to the tire place or, worst case scenario, a new set of tires if you leave the problem for a few months); airbag errors are common due to connection issues (at the plug) and (if that is the case) are easy to solve.. Coils will not necessarily be replaced every two years (3 of mine are still okish at 8 years and one was replaced at 7). As with any car, maintenance is the key.. so, assuming it’s been well looked after, you can expect fewer problems.. Insist on starting the car from cold (feel the exhaust); check the history (documents and online checks) it could’ve been in an accident or not maintained due to low milage.. this is quite common.. but regardless of mileage a service need be done yearly and the timing belt should’ve been changed at 5 years (advisable 4 years unless you wana place bets on whether or not you’ll be needing a new engine).. if the belt has not been changed.. get them to take the price of doing so off of the vehicle.. Oil burners are more economical but do also cost more.. wana know anything else – ask

i have a 1.6 dynamic ive had no problems apart from the airbag warning sign which is just the connections under the seat after cleaning them there fine i bought mine last year with 46.000 on the clock and last month due to no history of belt change i got the water pump belt, aux belt and cambelt changed then finding out the belts were fine not even a split on em in my opinion the car looks gr8 drives gr8 and it looks gr8 too and looks even beter when u throw some skirts and 17" on em.
the tracking aint a problem £20-30 will get the trackin sorted apart from that check service history last service,belt changes etc and if it hasnt any of these id get them done or looked at asap does the car have m.o.t ?

I've always liked the look of stilo's but like you say dan86 they aren't common, makes me think they aren't all good as you see focus's, astra's on the road so often. plus im a show girl, into modified cars and think a stilo looks pretty sweet done up

timinig belt will cost inbetween £180-£230 at most places unless you took it to fiat lol

Touch Wood...but mine been so reliable its unreal. So hopefully you wouldnt pick a bad one.

All cars will have issues, personally i would never buy a astra, ive driven astra's and focus's and i prefered my car alot more.

Only if driving along, with a good airflow, will take a little while to get ice cold when sitting

A bold statement. DERV's have higher maintenance costs on average, and are costly when the go wrong
