I've concluded that my engine burning oil was because of valve steam seals that has 85k on them, but it prob isn't the reason but i can hope. :p
this is happening after head gasket change.

Do I need to drain the oil? Can i replace them without taking the head off? just put new head bolts in...
Thanks for any help!

not had any experience on the punto engine, but on the ones i have done the valve has to come out so you will need to take the head out

but not 100% sure

you can get a 2 part tool to do it with out taking head off, one bit pumps air in by plug hole to keep valve up other dit compresses valve spring.

why didnt you put them on when you did the headgasket? that's why they come with the gasket set, so you can change them when head if already off

i thought they'd be fine but it seems they're not. this is my first car so how was i meant to know to change them aswell.
thanks for the reply

I ordered a valve compressor and it finally arrived, but with a problem. the part that pushes the valves down cant get any where near the top of the spring retainer as it is quite deep in the head!
take a look at the pic if you dont get what i mean

Should i get a cylinder type tube that will make the clamp reach longer? or buy one which will actually reach the retainer...
i've waited 2 weeks for this damn tool and this is ridiculous (n)

matbe they gone up, have you got a machine mart?
What's a machine mart?
i bought the £36 one, it's super-duper. has 2 spring retainer sizes and a jiffy for removal and replacement! thanks for the halfords tip, i checked other online stores but halfords had the cheapest one of the same brand! an unusual feat from halfords ;) (Laser brand)

Just a note the old valve oil seals broke to pieces once i took the springs off, they were completely f***ed !!!! especially inlet ones. i read somewhere they tend to go more than exhaust cos of somethin about pressure
