Finally the weather is dry enough.............

I don't fancy taking the plug out of the door jam in my mk2b active sport punto, drilling it and reconnecting all the wires. So in order to install my comps I 'm gonna cut the pre-existing wires and connect them to my x-overs and in turn to my amp.

The problem is this car has electric windows, central locking and speakers and tweeters, all of which are wired through the door so i'm a bit confused  as to which wires I need to tap into.

The woofer and tweeter are wired FROM the connector block with a puple/black and pink/black wire each.

Going into the block are:

Six really thin wires:
Green / Pink
Green / Yellow
Blue / Black
Pink / Black
Grey / Blue
Black / White
But due to their thickness I would assume these aren't any of the wires for the speakers.

There are also Six THICK wires going into the block:
Grey / Black
Solid Yellow
Pink / Black
Solid Purple
Solid Black
Black / Purple

So my question is:
Which of the twelve wires are the four for the speakers and which is which?

Would appreciate quick responses as the car is in bits and I need it back on the road for 4pm. Also the rain is due soon:eek:

The wires arent thick enough and will just burn out. Dont drill the door just run the wire behind the trim then across into the rubber door grommit.

I don't really fancy drilling a hole in my door to be perfectly honest

The only other option would be to put a new set of pin connectors in the already existing connector block. How easy is this to do?

Dunno ive never done it. Drilling the door will be easier though. Doesnt need to be very big either as its only speaker wiring that is going through it.

quick question why do you not want to drill through the connector block?

Its very easy only half the pins are used and is much neater and far easier than drilling holes into your door, just seems like a crazy thing to do.

I did this on my 1.2 8v to fit aftermarket central locking, It ruined the block and I had to rewire the speakers. Don't fancy having to reconnect all twelve wires on both sides of the car.

Ok so I am drilling the connector out (carefully this time (y))

I have got litterally nothing done though. I can work for about 2 mins out of every ten. The rain is coming down in litlle intervals, I think its trying to p**s me off on purpose, it did the same thing last time when I fitted my central locking to my last car.

Looks like I might be able to run the wire through to the car on the drivers side before I have to go out at 4. Hopefully the rain will just f**k off tomorrow so I can get this done. Still have to drill holes to mount woofers. Find someway of modding the tweeter grill to accept the tweeter and wire the lot into my amp. ffs this could take forever at this rate

Remember to look on the drivers side and check there is enough free pins.

Lol, I wired all my passenger side in and drilled the plug. Then went round the drivers side and all the pins were full :bang: Schoolboy error!

I did the drivers side first, just finished running the wires but will have to leave actual speakers until tomorrow, I'm already 30mins late as it is.

I always do the drivers door 1st whenever I do anything like this as its normally trickier than the passenger which makes the passenger seem easy:D

Done quite a tidy job really, can't see a thing.

And btw how do you make the Tweeters fit?

They wont go in the standard positions put them somewhere else on the door.
 thats what I thought. Just got them done and guess what?

Don't need woofer baffles or adaptors or relocated tweeters. I just had to cut away the plastic holders that the origional tweeters were held in.

Unreal how I actually found some comps that fit all the standard locations and they sound great. Not telling you what they are though :p I will get stick for it :(

ok I'll brace myself for it, thay are FLI (sorry:eek:) Comp 6's

Don't really want to push them but they sound decent enough for what I paid for them, I finally have some mid-bass :D

The problem is no though I have got something wired up wrong. My sub is so low its unreal. I need to get the manual for my amp and HU out methinks...........:chin:

Ok my amp manual says when using it as a 3channel (which I am. one channel to each x-over and 2 bridged for my sub) to bridge channels C+D and use A and B independantly. ATM I have bridged A+B and used C and D independantly, would this really make a difference?

And my hu doesn't have a + and - on its pre outs. It has a SWout left and right and a RearOut left and right. I currently use the rear preout rather than the sw pre out as the speakers sounded crap using the SW preout. And i am using an RCA splitter at the amp. I am going to buy a spare RCA cable and use both preouts. Surely this will increase the SW volume as I can then control all the speakers independantly form the HU's equaliser?

And another question? How do I know what OHM the speakers are wired at? Ohm is the only thing I don't really understand.
