Hello can anyone help please. Trying to change the radio in my wife's fiat 500 but the new radio just won't turn on. But some one previously has a ran a red wire which I think is the new permanent live then they have cut a red wire with a white stripe. Just wondered if any one knows what your meant to do

Got a meter? Or a small bulb, check what's on the wires, pretty sure the original wiring is permanent live, it's the can bus that turns on the radio, you need a switched feed ( from the lighter/power socket) for auto on, for now to check on a standard aftermarket radio connect the yellow and red together should turn on but don't leave it this way
Restore any previous alterations to factory

What year is your car? Facelift models use the Canbus to switch on the radio and thus a permanent live is required for an aftermarket radio.
For older cars you should be able to use one of those simple adapter cables. No need to cut wires.

Ok your new radio is it a branded unit say Alpine or Kenwood?

Temporarily bridge the yellow and red does it turn on?
Is the aerial connected ?
Are you sure the earth is OK?
Have you restored any previous modifications?
Are the original radio plugs still on the ends of the factory wiring?
