Hi all I'm having real trouble getting hold of gear selecter cables for a 05 1.2 fiat punto , I've had 3 lots delivered & they keep sending the wrong ones , any ideas would great as I've given the reg to suppliers & they still keep sending the wrong ones .cheers Marcus

cant see why wrong cables sent
why not just fit complete s/h linkage and box from a breakers for £25
then when old cables on floor you can measure the dimensions so right new cable sent

having changed these cables on a Multijet HGT which is about the only model to have its own specific cable design, I fail to see how they can keep sending the wrong cables there just aren't that many different types to send.

my first question has to be 'in what way are they wrong?'

why not just drop into fiat

Thanks for the replys , I'll try & explain the problem,Took car to lad I know to replace clutch ,which he did but he said gear cable needs changeling , ordered gear cable from scrap yard .he then said right cable but brackets to connect broken , anyway got some more cables from scrappy , wrong ones ends are different ? So ordered some brand new ones from shop4parts & he's still telling me there not the right ones as the end bits r to small & there different from the ones he took out , So not sure what to do now , all I can think us perhaps it's got a different gearbox in it .at the end of my tether now so any help would be great.cheers Marcus

I've allso checked that they sent right cables for model & they match so it must be a problem my end , surely there can't be many different cables to fit a 05 1.2 punto ?cheers marcus

as you say..it could well be somebody had "adapted" a non-standard change arrangement onto your car..:(

pretty sure ALL the 5-speed boxes are interchangeable,
so it MAY be ,as S+B said , easier + cheaper to get a complete change assy from a scrap yard,

Ok thanks Charlie , looks like I'm gonna have to take it to another garage because lost faith in matey now as he's should know all this , ah well another expensive lesson learnt .cheers marcus

did it drive + change gear o.k. before the clutch went and it went to him ?

as I've a suspicion it's become damaged during the clutch change..:(

to change the clutch you have to remove the gearbox,
AND undo the gear-change cables..which are now broken..

No it would just about go into a gear & it stank , I've a suspicion it might have been the cable rather than the clutch that had gone as it's been playing up for a few weeks ie stiff gear change especially 3 rd , I'm not mechanically very savi & presumed it was the clutch .Cheers marcus

What I ment was the gears have been a bit stiff for a while especially 3rd , daughters car so I didn't drive it much & it seemed to get better until it finally gave in .i managed to drive it home , less than half a mile , it just about went into 1st gear & the clutch stank.cheers marcus
