Hi guys,

i am trying to fit my old alpine 7874 headunit that i had in my bravo, when i connect the ISO connectors up and turn on the ignition i am not getting any power to the cd player, i have tried the usual red/yellow cable swap (as this was how it was setup in the bravo too) but even doing it the normal way round too doesnt work.

looking at the power ISO block, the yellow lead (that is connected to the red) connects to a pink or pink/white lead (sorry not near the car), i can check if required.

any help on this would really be appreciated, thanks.

Yeah, it'd be handy to know what the pink/white lead is for :)

i will take a picture of what im trying to connect up as i think it might help. cheers.

Right, I've got my pictures now so hopefully this will help me explain how i've done it.

This one is a picture of the power part of the ISO connectors I was trying to describe (where the yellow cable is connected to the pink):

Here are the pink/pink and white cables i was previously describing:

Finally here is the power connector from the CD player with a top down view, do I need to move any of the pins around on this, do they look like they are int the right places to you?:

Hopefully you will be able to help me with this as i currently have a cd player that i cannot install otherwise, cheers! :)

hi

have you tried connecting the RED & YELLOW together then straight to to the thickest wire on the car connections (making sure you have a permanent earth connected)

this basically cuts out the ignition part of the radio ?????

if that doesnt work check the usuall i.e
fuse on the back of the radio
fuse on the car

did your radio have a remote stick or the option to add one to it !
ok
shaun

yeah it has an in line fuse (a red 10, asume thats 10amp?) but it hasnt blown looking at it.

If you look at the picture of the male and female power connectors you will see that the red (ign +ve) and black (earth) match up, but the yellow wire is not present on the male plug. I would suspect that the red wire on the male plug is a permanent live, but obviously you would need to double check this with a multimeter.

I have encountered this problem a few times with various fiats in work (usually bravos) and the easiest way round it is to get a harness adaptor made by autoleads , part no PC2-18-4 (i think). It will say volkswagen on the packet, and it should do the job. Can get them from halfords, or almost any motor factors.

best of luck!

Pink wiring is normally CAN wiring.

From the photos i'd solder in extra bit of wire between red & yellow wire as your obiously missing the radios ignition supply.(as in car wiring only has one earth & one live(red)so you need another supply going up the yellow wire)

right its sorted, took it to halfords in the end and they sorted it.....problem was solved by connecting the reds together and also on the passthrough red to the yellow, which meant the radio now has a permanant live feed, hope you guys understand what i mean, thanks for all your help, ive learnt a few things here!
