Technical Head gasket blown, balancing options, little money

I’m thinking of gearing up to do the HG repair again

The symptoms match closely, except there doesn’t seem to be an issue with coolant yet

- engine heating up quick, but not yet overheating
- rough idle
- wanting to stall at stop

The smoke seems to be oil-related, only because it’s temperamental and there’s no reading of combustion fumes in the coolant at the moment.

Unless I’ve got some other intake or fuel issue, but I can’t imagine that affecting the temperature of the engine

if it is the HG, then I’m not sure why it would have blown again

I don’t know if the engine deck could be warped or what

Finding hard to use this site at the moment, seem slow

How quick is it heating

How high does the gauge go

Can't see anything diagnostic in the video

Basically it will get to the middle line, on a short journey, and especially if at low speeds for a while

Not only that, the temp gauge shows it heating up and cooling down visibly, like a back and forth

Before last Friday, it would be slow to get to quarter way on the gauge after repair

It has activated the cooling fan, especially when I let it sit and idle

I generally don’t let it get past the middle line

Like I’ll stop the engine before that (not that I’ve yet had to do that while on the road since the repair)

Is it possible for HG to be blown and for it not to be burning coolant?

like could it just be related to oil pushing its way through the gasket into cylinder 3?

It should be halfway in about two miles, and stay there

Unless you turn the heater blowers on then it will drop a bit but soon recover

Shoot — maybe my thermostat is playing up then

Beforehand (after the repair) it wasn’t ever getting halfway

Plug 3 looks a little rich

But let not get a head of ourselves

Take the MAP sensor out, one bolt no need to disconnect the electrical cable, look at the top
Is it dry
Is it covered in oil like this
Or is it covered in mayo

Let me go do that

how often should the cooling fan activate?
Depends if it's got Aircon and if it's on
Depends if it's single or dual speed
Depends if the car moving forward or stationary
Depends on outside temperature
Depends on load
Depends if the heaters are on and what the blower setting is

If the Aircon is on the fan will activate much more often

I had the more common dual speed, I can't hear the first speed from inside the car, second speed is very rare

From cold, car just idling, blower off, it takes quite awhile, engine already up to temperature sat at idle, warm day, the fan will come on ever few minutes for a couple of minutes

It's also not unknown for a dual speed to only come on full

Looks like just oil

I also noticed I’m having leaks on my coolant hoses that connect to the head by the thermostat — one of them is almost off actually (the one that somehow slipped off back in July and gave the huge cloud of steam under the bonnet)

Could these cause rough idle/stalling problems (conceivable that would cause the overheating issues potentially)?

Hard to see in the photos

But a drop of oil on the centre of the MAP is enough to cause the fueling to be out

Poor performance, acceleration, idling

It was pretty wet with oil — just dark out and would focus (and camera has too many scratches lol)

How would oil get there?

How would I best clean it?
