Technical Hazards On When Braking

Lol, been there and done that. Me and another driver were being a bit "spirited", and tore up to a roundabout on a slight hill, and it had just started drizzling, I had slowed down enough to allow a other car coming in the opposite direction, that had right of way to come round wanting to turn right, but the driver behind had planned on a full tilt across the roundabout not preempting the other guy coming round in front of us. As my window was slightly ajar, I heard his tyres sliding, I didn't have time to look in the mirror, I just knew that sound, and gently edged my Granada, onto the triangular section in the centre of the road, to allow the guy behind me somewhere to go. I gave myself a pat on the back that day I can tell you.

Yes this was definitely a case of experience preventing my stupidity from becoming a disaster. I shall be being a lot more careful in future. Age is definitely a factor too in my case. Oddly was only talking to a loal driving instructor about an assessment last week. Clearly the need is there.

We live on a main road with two busy side roads opening on to it in a staggered layout and I have a series of videos from our CCTV of prangs, mostly caused through inattention. Stopping out there waiting to get into our driveway is a fraught experience I can tell you and I keep one eye on the mirror at all times! I've gotten into the habit of holding the car on the handbrake and dabbing the brake pedal continuously to keep the brake lights flashing. It might be effective to have the hazards flashing but I need to indicate a right turn so that won't work. A way of flashing the rear fog-lamp might make me feel a little more secure - I've got no other use for it! 🙃
