Apologies for the long post

So being the total noob I am, and without doing any research I went to halfords last week and purchased these alloys/tyres. There's a link on the page about which cars the wheels fit, and it says punto 99>. So once I'd got them I was reccomended to a garage called 'the wheel specialist' to have them fitted, got there and found out halfords had given me the wrong fitting kit as it hadnt come with any spigot rings. So back to halfords I went, got given another fitting kit, back to the garage, had them fitted but when the car was taken off the jack the back tyres were rubbing something and the front were touching something at full lock.

Had the steels put back on and was told to order some hubcentric spacers, searched and searched but couldn't find the exact size I'd been told to get. Phoned a fella from ebay who told me just to buy these. So went to halfords as they sold the same thing. Back to the garage, had the alloys fitted and I thought that was the end of it...

The wheels were sold from halfords as balanced, but driving down the motorway the steering wheel was shaking quite violently. Booked in at my usual garage for tracking and balancing yesterday. Got a call from them sounding quite concerned and asking who had fit the wheels, they said because of the spacers there wasn't enough of the bolt actually screwing into the wheel, only about 5mm, they said they'd taken the spacers off the front and told me to order some longer bolts. Alternatively go back to 'the wheel specialist' and ask to have it in writing that the wheels are safe like that! :bang:

Anyway so I've ordered some longer bolts which should arrive Monday, when I was driving today I noticed a banging coming from the wheels when I was driving slowly (under 10mph). It seemed to get worse as I could then hear it at 30, seemed to be a bang for every full turn of the wheels. It was actually quite scary, then whole car felt like it was vibrating, was very glad to get home and wont be moving my car until I have the new bolts. I had a feel around and cant feel the wheels touching or rubbing anything. Could it just be the fact that I need longer bolts? I'm worried that something is touching the tyre and its just going to shred it up.

Halfords will be getting a strongly worded letter of complaint from me, if they're advertising the wheels to fit the car then surely they should fit straight up without all this faffing about.

RAHHHHHHHHH :bang::bang::bang: rant over. Sorry

I think you could have a loose wheel or two cause some of the bolts are loose or have gone for a walk. I wouldn't drive it until you have checked that all are present and tight. If I'm reading you right and you are on the new wheels the spacers are now off so there may be nothing centering the wheels on the hubs.
Hope I'm wrong but this sounds like a right disaster waiting to happen.

The rubbing on full lock isn't always something to worry about - mine did it on my last car and after a couple of days it had rubbed away enough of the wheel arch to stop making any noise :D.

I don't recommend anybody ignore it however, I was just lazy and too proud of my new wheels.

bad advice this because i see non factory wheels having cut through brake hose on the front on quite a few occasions
to OP take those wheels back and demand your money back before someone dies

These alloys used to be named 100+
ihad nothing but trouble with them,

grab some abarth alloys or some wheels off a active/sport or sport-ting,
you can get decent set, with good tyres on the bay..120 ish,
bolt straight on no messing nice and safe and look the part,

Had a look on ebay, found a nice set up in york but I'm on the south coast so a bit of a trek!

I'm worried if I'll be able to get a refund from halfords considering I've driven on the tyres, plus I paid £60 to get them fitted and another £50 for balancing and tracking.

Seriously wishing I had done my research first.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

i asked my local trusty garage if ever got alloys how much would the charge (switching tyres over to new alloys) £12 per tyre thats x4 = £48 then tracking on top would be i think its like £25 so in total = £73:D

on other hand yours! £60 + £50 = £110(n)

you would of been better off doing bargain hunting like most of us do on here;)

Return on not fit for Purpose Basis,

Stand your ground, dont take any B/S from them,
they shouid of made sure these where compatible and bolt straight on with no
hastle or have affect on safety,

you can get alloys shipped for 30quid ish,
Most punto breakers will ship wheels out dont be afraid to ask the sellers on ebay (y)

im on the look out for some abarth alloys,

They look mint painted up in White,

So do sportings :D 20140113_135623_Richtone(HDR)_resized.jpg
