OK, the noises i'm hearing are pretty normal, compared to a 100hp, so thats ok. Probably louder as its in the garage and i'm just worrying too much.

The battery light issue is sorted, but took about half the day. The thing is real tricky item to remove with the big air intake. It all has to be doen from underneath. After 1 hour and knuckle blood dripping in my face i got it out.

The plan was to swap the internals with the 1.4 as they are electrically the same, but it involved a lot of soldering and clamps that i didn't have. In the end i just swapped the regulator over, and kept my fingers crossed. It worked :D One more thing off the list.

I can now select all the gears lol. Had to cut the inhibitor for reverse down a bit to get 5 and 6. You still have to pull to get reverse so its all nice and like you'd expect :)

Starting is still a pita, and it looks like i have some king of missfire at low rpm, AFR swings wildly at <1500rpm, 14 to 19 so going really lean, then back. Possibly cylinder 3 or 4 COP is not working at the lo rpm, so it's dumping fuel out the pipe.

Tempted to go back to wasted, but got no leads or coil pack, so not really an option. Just need to keep trying. Supposed to be going down south in it tomorrow though

if you want to do some testing, i have a set of coils and HT leads off an 8v. ok they're not gonna fit neatly into place - but should reach to give you an idea of if they'd work or not :)

It's ALIVVEEEEEE :D :) (y) (y) :slayer:

Just been out in it for a 13 mile run.

A few issues like revs cutting out at 3000rpm, (I had this last time, an easy fix).

A slight coolant leak on one of the hoses, and the brakes are terrible as the discs have rusted heavily sitting for 3 weeks.

All small things though :)

It's time for a 400 mile run this weekend if i'm feeling brave enough :D

:D:D:Dwoohoo!! well done!! must have been a great feeling, what an aceivement!, and with only little niggles!
(did get your MSN convo but was seeing to Rose, and forgot to set to away:eek:)

Sorry for late reply ;) I was fed up after the trip as I couldn't do over 64mph, the brakes didn't sort themselves out and were a bit dangerous, and I was just in a bad mood lol

I'm all better now though :)

The VR issue is sorted, so i can rev all the way up and not just to 3000rpm

I have replaced the master cylinder, and the rear discs as they were too corroded to clean themselves up. Refilled with DOT 5.1 and adjusted the handbrake. Haven't been out in it since doing the discs but i'm hoping the pedal judder is sorted now :)

I'm researching reducing the steering lock, which should be done tomorrow i hope, and tuning megasquirt tuning is coming along :)

Now I can rev it and push it, it's amazing how different it sounds to the 1242 16v and how much lower torque it seems to have. Add to that i have no engine bay sound damping, and it makes it a real blast to drive.....much more intense, yet not overpoweringly loud!

MOT is on Monday (not yet booked ), so i need to sort the steering lock out, tidy the wiring, change the sidelight bulbs, and then see how it goes.

Give it another week or two, and I'll take you out in it Kris, think you'll like it :slayer:

I was down about the whole thing, but now I'm happy again and am itching to get all the little bits done and then give it some stick

Yeah, doing 64mph, I got there and back on one, very empty once at home, tank. 48mpg (y)

I could lean it out an get even more mpg if i wanted, that was running rich at the time, to avoid detonation and pinking, as it is a very early map for the engine.

There is still a bit of pedal judder after doing the dics, but it's minimal now, and they work ok......locked them up on the A444 earlier when a car pulled into my lane without looking or indicating (n) Lots of smoke was cool though, before i promptly eased off and reapplied.

Having a cat fitted tomorrow at much expense, as it's not gonna pass emissions :(

just a quick question... with a complete engine transplant like this... is there an advantage starting with a sporting, over say a 899 like mine?
i may have some wild plans for a few years, and have some attatchments to my car lol
cheers

If you plan anything as radical as the two existing 1400 cars (new exhaust throughout, new suspension, gearbox, etc) and plan on doing it in one hit, then there's probably little in it. If you want to do something less radical or a bit at a time, then starting with a Sporting is the only sensible way to go.

cheers for that! oh... well it will be radical... i dont plan on dojng anything major untill i finish uni, and have a second car to drive, rather than work on my daily driver

cheers

Cheers James....I'll give you another run soon. It's now sparking properly, so more power to be had :D

Today, I replaced all 4 injector drivers with much higher power ones, and mounted them in the engine bay. Not it starts 100x better and runs better :)

I also took it for a cat to be fitted, so emissions should be fine now.

Fingers crossed for the mot tomorrow (y)

Just cleaning, tidying etc left to do before the MOT.

Pics to follow later or tomorrow :)
