I need some help with regards to my fiat grande punto 1.3 multijet 6 speed semi automatic gear box. Last week i was just driving along at around 60 mph when suddenly when i was in the 6th gear the gears started to slip.
This was very sudden and because it was slipping it was revving a lot and then went into natural. I did know what to do. I managed to get it going but putting it into nutural and then back into manual gears. I couldnt put it in 5th or 6th gear anymore as it would just keep slipping.
On the way back home my 1st gear and 2nd gear where very loud. 1st gear sound like something was scratching and the 2nd gear sounded like the engine in the back of a bus. Very loud.
I took it to a garage who said its all the bearings, but all he done was take it for a spin? He wants to charge me £818 for putting new bearings in and for labour :bang:.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I thought this maybe a clutch issue or a selector issue?
Or is it just worth getting a new gear box? The car still drives but i dont want to drive it anymore as 1st and 2nd gear sound like its going to explode any minute and 5th and 6th gear just slip? Strange that 3rd and 4th gear work fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
