If a garage fits a non Fiat part and covers it with a proper warranty (that would cover an engine rebuild) then that might be different.

Company like gates iirc make cambelts for fiat/alfa anyway but if it were me I'd go for genuine parts tbh.
My independent man says the cam belt tensioners are not as good from the aftermarket suppliers. So I have gone with genuine parts.
I did buy an alternator belt at the same time - from shop4parts and it was old stock - nearly six years old. Be aware.

who is doing it? if its a garage that are part of the dayco warranty programme, then its guaranteed by dayco even if the belt is fitted wrong they pay for all engine repairs

even if it will be covered - that’s still a week without your car and all the hassle of towing it etc.. for a couple of squid.. i wouldn't risk it (besides warranty normally lasts a year.. 3 at best.. you want your belt to last 5)
Im going with genuine parts on my cambelt change. The quotes are still making me twitch like ive got tourettes, but im just gonna bite the bullet.

Im running on luck aswell then i guess - 2004 54 reg & 56,000 miles.
Was gonna get it done before the official time limit (due September). If it wasnt so much more ££ than the Punto JTD was, id personally have got it done already. 72,000 official interval on the mileage side seems very optimistic.
Had mine changed at 5 years as per book.
Do you know of any that failed under 5 years (aside from high mileage) ?

Specifically the belts snapping or because of seizing waterpumps, tensioners etc?
Have heard of waterpump problems causing very early cambelt failure on Alfa 147 Multijets but appeared to be less frequent on Stilo & 147 JTD examples?
