Technical Gearstick not engaging - Linkage is still attached

Got in the car this morning, the reverse gear was not engaging, after 3 attempts the whole gearstick went loose, but could not get in reverse.

Selecting a gear still appears to work, but as I can't move forward because of my parking space and I can't tell exactly which gear it is, even though it feels like 1st, it feels like only 1 gear is selectable.


After looking at the linkage behind the battery, it is still connected but does it swivel on the ball joint, is this normal.

If anyone knows what it might be it would be most appreciated.

Bicks - yours is 1 of 3 sudden gear linkage problems
probably related to the sudden cold snap
