hi all,

just wondering will the 6speed MK2 1.2 16v sporting gearbox fit straight onto my MK2 1.2 8v engine 5 speed??

is it a straight swap? all same wiring and hydraulics?

cheers
brin

i was told by someone on here last week that yes, its a straight swap (y)

I believe the 6 speed has lower ratio's so you'll be changing gear earlier - but having 6 gears, you'll be cruising more in 6th then you would 5th

Ziggy

easier to redline then?

i was touchin 65-70mph in second on my 5 speed gear box is the 6 speed going to give me more acceleration or owt? guessin il be in third to do them speed ah?

get the 6speed from the stilo 1.4 16v sport thingy and the diff will EASILY hold whatever you want to put through it. cento boys run 140bhp ish through them on turbo's

straight fit and MUCH better ratios than any mk2 or mk1 punto box.

you may have to swap clutch arms but its reallllly easy to do. just one circlip.

If you swap the 5-speed to a 6-speed will you have to change the linkages?
The gear nob will be odd when the passenger sees you put the car into reverse  - small momment of panic untill they see the cars still going forwards (in 6th):p

haha im tempted to get a gear knob with just 5 gears on so i can scare people showing them "What putting it in reverse does at 60" :D

duh - its like Stickers - Makes it well faster!
(from the Kid from the Incredibles - )

Wonder how many people who have had a 6speed before but went to a 5speed tried putting it into reverse at speed?

I've been in 2:p - passenger in 1:eek:
went for 4th but it wouldn't go in so i moved a little further right and went into Reverse, put it in slowly so i knew i made the mistake before i let clutch go(y)

What about fitting a mk2/3 6sp into a mk1 - does that drop in easy too?

What's this about restricting lock - I heard that would happen. Is it because the longer box fouls something?

Yes easier to redline.... Do go handy if you get one though, the diffs are made of chocolate and dont like abuse...

The only difference is the gearbox itself is about an extra 5cms longer to accomadate the extra gear

right back to the puntpo gearboxes lol

same if i drove my 1.2 8v in a straigt line redlining gears with both a 5 speed and 6 speed gearbox which would be faster to pull away and in general beetter?

does 6 speed change top end speed because of ratios?

No theyre the same linkages. This time I'm leaving the standard knob in place :p

I often looked for 6th in both the Sei and other Bravo when not in my own car... Thankfully both dont go into reverse at that position :D

Id go for the 6 speed every time, better ratios, better economy. It pulls better than the 5 speed too. Top speed is slightly higher so its a win win situation. Cannot emphasise the crap diff enough though

5 speed

Exact same car but 6 speeds

The 1st vid was taken when I got the car running first. I'm not giving it welly in the 2nd vid as by then that was the 3rd box I put in that car and I certainly wasn't going to put a 4th one in :dead: I'll see if I can get a vid of new car opened up well when its finished. Any day now... :yum:

Take my word for it, 6 speeds is better all round :D
