Technical gearbox issue - change

the gearbox in my 1.2 8V is getting intermittently awkward when changing gear.

the master and slave cylinders on the clutch are new, and i don't think the clutch, although old is too worn.

i changed the oil in the box with no effect.

is it worth changing the clutch?

if i switch the box for a used one are all Punto 5 speeds the same?

will a box from a lter 5 speed 8v grande Punto fit?

just doen a bit of googling and a grande 5 spped gearbox is more to repair than a punto 5 speed- so i am guessing they are not the same and will not fit.

What mileage are you on?
And if its the original clutch
Or go decent mileage on it - then id look at the clutch too...

A worn out clutch can cause disengagement issues as well as slip

I fitted a mk2b gear box in to a grande,and it dropped the revs by about 500 rpm at 70mph, so if you fit a grande gear box into yours the revs will be higher at 70mph. What are your symptoms?is it bad going into reverse?Is it all gears or just 5th?

gearbox is notchy, but not all the time.

clutch pedal seems to be biting at the top of it's travel, so perhaps although not slipping it is worn too thin and not engaging/disengaging properly

perhaps change the clutch first and see how the box goes?

What's it like with engine turned off,is it still knotchy?

no, fine when engine off, fine when you start out then seems to get worse as it gets warm which is making me suspect the clutch is not helping

symptoms seem to indicate a worn clutch. I had one did similar (notchy change) but didn't slip and when I had it changed old one was Absolutely knackered.

If its easy when no engine
Hard when its running it means the box is sounding okay

Throw a clutch on it first


The go is a heavier car, so more revs needed to make it go vs the mk2 and 2b
