Hello All,

I have a 2001 JTD Diesel Multipla and the gear stick has broken at the "counter balance" end, which fits just above the gearbox.

I took it into a garage today, which Ive never been to before (it broke down about 15 miles from home and i chose to get it to the nearest garage rather than home) and they told me i would probably need a whole new gearbox to sort this problem as the bit that is broken goes "into" the gear box.

It seems a bit excessive when they want to charge me more or less half what i paid for the thing 5 months ago to fix it.

I have been told that it is a common problem, but havent seen anything here in 23 pages so far.

Anyone had this or know what it is likely to really cost to repair?

Many Thanks in advance.

I do remember a post on here stating the fork section was broken but if its broken on the outside of the box just take the battery out and various bits of tray surrounding it and get it welded, wont cost the earth and should be able to make it stronger with no real issues.
If its broken inside the box then the part is available seperate as is all the internals so id ignore the dealer and try and get it to someone you trust.
But if it is inside id think about doing the clutch while its out to save doing it at a later date saving on labour twice.

Hope its on the outside:)

Oh and by the way i had a gear linkage break on mine at that point (y) and it had been previously been welded there but it was not a good job, the gearbox selector cables are £115 and you cannot buy 1 you have to buy the 2 at once (n) thats why i repaired it and all is well but you have to make sure it remains exactly the right length not a problem for a competant welder.
