Dear Group Members!
I read that many people like to modify their Multipla, develop it, and improve it so that it can compete with its younger counterparts. Of course, the Multipla is almost perfect, there is not much that can be added to it, but with a little DIY, it is easy to shape the technology to your own taste.
In the past, my Multipla had an optimized controller, not to the point of madness, but it performed very well in terms of torque and consumption. It originally had 110 hp if I remember correctly. I drove long distances with it, often on the highway abroad, and the shortness of the ratio did not let me rest. I started researching whether Fiats equipped with a similar engine had this longer ratio, one that I could install in the Multi. After many sleepless nights, I came across a car that I initially excluded from the tests, but later, with the peace of mind of not being able to do anything, I checked the ratios of the gear pairs. This car is the Punto II 1.9 JTD, which only received the JTD engine in the 80 and 85 hp versions. The gear ratio of this car is much longer than that of the Multiplá, and the two transmissions are almost identical.
If you want the longest gear ratio, you need to install the complete transmission, because the differential and the 5th gear are longer together. If you only want to do a few hundred revolutions at a speed of one hundred, you only need to replace the 5th gear pair located outside the transmission. This can be done in an hour, depending on your experience. Of course, the complete transmission is more time-consuming, and consoles and covers also have to be refitted, but this will make the car run like a marathon!
There will be hardly any changes in the lower gears, so you don't have to worry about that, the car will remain perfectly usable in the city.
Unfortunately, when I built my car, I didn't document the process, which was a big mistake on my part, but I really liked using it this way! Please forgive me for not remembering all the details of the conversion, but I'm absolutely sure about the gear and sprockets that I installed!
I shared this in case someone else gets the urge and feels the strength to do such a project!
