Hi All

Driving home today and gears suddenly jammed in second gear. Have removed battery etc and gained access to gear linkage cables. Can only move the gear stick forward and backwards into 1st and 2nd gears. If manually move the gear link plate in engine compartment can get gear stick to move across all gears.

Has one of the cables broken or worn?

Cheers

I haven’t I’m afraid. It was just the green ball joint and socket that separated and I just glued them back together. It certainly sounds like the cables are the issue.

If you take off the surround round the gear stick that will show you the gear stick mechanism. It could be the ball joint that end that controls sideways movement.

Take off both kick panels in footwells and remove the gearstick gaiter and ring. The top part of the gearstick surround just pulls off. You will see two torx screws that hold the surround on at the top and smaller torx both sides in the footwell. Once you’ve got it off, hopefully something will become obvious.

Thanks have done all this....all seem attached but still cannot get gear stick to move to right.....presume it is the lower side shift cable that is sticking.

Can get gear stick to move by moving the plate which the lower cable is attached to on the gear box

It wouldn’t be a problem at the gear box end would it.....just don’t want to replace cables if they are ok.......how’s best to check this please?

Thanks

Thanks.....will get them replaced

Look at the gear stick gate first, the natural resting position is forwards 3rd back 4th, so if you can't move the stick left right look at the base of the gear stick, even try disconnecting the cable and then see if it will move rule out the gear stick assembly before replacing the possibly ok cables?

Just sorted the car. Gear stick was fine. Lower gear lever cable had snapped inside cover......only discovered after removing cables from transmission mount and pulling them.

Only difficult bit was with the cerclips holding the cables in place.....

Thanks guys for your help
