I would like to claim the first, and possibly last of 2008, reported frozen handbrake of the winter. Yes folks, left the HGT on the drive for a couple of days, got in it today and tried to drive off! Cables are all well lubricated etc. I had to walk to the shops, unheard of in Brum. Hopefully it will thaw out before I go back to work next Monday.

dont be a wimp drag your backwheels along lol :D

I think mine has frozen aswell, for the 1st time since its been freezin these past nights..Only used it y'day without any problems, got it car this afternoon, started it up,handbrake off (felt very floppy) and cudnt go,was like handbrake was still on..
So seen as this has been posted,im presuming 'its frozen' lol..Hope it has tho and i not snapped the H/B lever :(

Luckly tho,we got a lil polo to run about in so had 2 use that.BUT the polo has not been started for days and was really frozen this morning...Started 1st time, and H/B wasnt frozen...AND its a DIESEL :D lol

Defrosted now, have left it in gear with the handbrake off, hopefully will help. Must remember it's in gear when I next get in though.......

Gota say tho,in all times i been driving and all cars ive had,ive never known a cars handbrake to freeze up..It musta have been cold the other night..

Fiats are quite well known for the "frozen handbrake"

Tommy's was frozen on first thing this morning... It soon got sorted out...

Wierd. The only car I had a problem with it's handbrake freezing at anything below minus 3 was an Audi 50 I had years ago - neither of 2 FIATs, nor other Brit/Jap/Ruski cars I've owned ever gave jip in that department.

Have owned various different makes of older cars over the years and never had the frozen handbrake syndrome before. Luckily having read past threads on this forum, I knew what it was as soon as the car wouldn't move, so didn't panic, just put it down to yet another endearing quirk of Fiat Bravo's.
