Hi guys, I search the Forum to see if the problem with Tyres wearing on the outside edge was ever resolved but have drawn a blank. Is it the case that you need to have the tracking set to 0 degress and then keep having this done at 6 monthly intervals?

I only ask as my brand new tyres are already showing outside edge wear after only approx 5,000 miles of use!

Any update would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Tom.

Tom,

To be honest I would think twice before getting it set to zero degrees. I went down this road about four years ago with my Multipla and after I wished I had never done it as it affected the handling by making the steering more wobbly. The difference it made in tyre wear for me was instead of heavy wear on the one side it spread the wear a bit more mildly to both the outside and inside evenly with a lot less wear in the middle. I have recently had mine re-set to standard and so far the wear is quite reasonable.

Maybe yours has just shifted from where it should be and just needs to be re-set.

Hope this helps

Jim

What tyres do you have and what is the pressure that you've inflated them to?

I had these cheap and nasty Corsa tyres that came with the car I regularly tried to inflate them to 35 PSI which was the highest I could go before the ride felt like riding on a rock and this stopped the wear on the outsides. (They were already quite worn anyway and I always noticed that they lost 4 - 6PSI over the course of a month.

Just before Christmas I replaced them with a softer Bridgestone Turanza ER300 V-rated tyres. Apart from much better all round grip and wet braking, I've not noticed any of the wear related issues (yet) and have covered just over 1600 miles on a trip around the north of England and Scotland over Christmas. I'm currently using the same 35 PSI on the Bridgestones.
