Technical Front tyre wear record?!

Just got 22000 miles wear from a front tyre! Is this a record for a Multi front! I was getting through them at 7500 miles until a local independent finally sorted the tracking.

In fact there was still plenty of meat on the centre of the tyre, just the inside edge worn, on the limit. Outside edge was still legal as well.

Had tracking reset and although it was adjusted, garage said it wasn't wildly out but enough to warrant adjustment. And no, they weren't making money from me, I trust them implicitly AND thay showed me what they were doing and why they were adjusting it.

And the most amazing news is the other front was originally replaced at the same time as the one I've just had changed and it's still on there, racking up the miles.......

Can anyone beat this? Lol.

Well how about just over 6000 on one tyre and the tracking was way out - I went over a pot hole (the roads in Hampshire are full of them!!) and forgot to get the tracking checked. National Tyre Centres do free tracking checks so I visit them every 2 - 3 months and every 6 months get the fronts put on the back and vice verser. I am coming up for 27,000 on a set and reckon they have another few thou left until a set is needed - I have found Avons the hardest wearing for this car

22000 miles is a long way on any car what tyres were these?

I'm considering replacing all my tyres with the Goodyear Hydragrip tyre that seems to do well in all driving and braking conditions especially on wet roads.

I'm also surprised how quiet the Multipla is on the road and even on motorway driving under legal speeds.

Defo not like the more agricultural Seicento.

Well I`ve not been on the Forum for some time, but I had murders with tyre wear probs. - down to people who despite the most sophisticated equipment can`t set tracking right! The setting is critical on these cars, I now hope that after eating inside edge of front tyres, I has been resolved.

I`ve just done a front bearing too, Thames Fiat wanted £248, easy job to do save that the centre hub nut sits in a `dished`fitting, need to modify the 34 mm socket. I will continue to monitor the wear, but i hope it is solved.

On the UK multi owners forum they all recommend setting at '0' or 'neutral'. Whereas Fiat recommend, I think -3 degs.

Soon after I got mine I went to a local tyre dealer and as soon as I asked that they track it to zero they said they have done plenty of Fiats outside the official recommended setting. They knew about the problem and laughed. Then they relieved me of 40 quid ! But the gear they used was very high tech stuff.

Here in Leighton Buzzard there appears to be a thriving colony of multis - perhaps due to the local Italian community - so the garage was used to them.
