Panda (Classic) Fizzle :)

I think the best person to ask is @dragonMan

He has a disco in his dash!

Can you throw any light on the matter John ;)

yes, from what i can tell theres some panda's that have back lit dashes, and some that do not.. i think some of the 750's do not have back lit dashes.. however if "some" of the dash lights up, then the whole dash should light up... it would just have a blown bulb.

the bulbs are located (from left to right):
one in the clock (if you have one), one behind the switches, one just behind the red "square" on the hot/cold temp control lever, one on the cigarette lighter and 2 on the top of clocks them selves.

Mr. CLS, we tried to fit back lit switches to fizzle when you were around here but i did not have any back lit switches at the time (i still dont :( ).. we did get the clocks lit up though.. if you remember :)
fizzle sadly does not have the plastic fittings that the bulbs... fit into. you would need to get a new dash surround that had the bulb fittings in.

on the other hand, you could just go mad with LED's like i did with mine.. OK maybe not tri-colour, but it would look good back lit all in red though hmm?

Mr. Didge3, if you have back lit switches the rest of the dash should also be back lit unless it has been changed at some point. you just need to replace the bulb behind the red panel on the heating selector.. you have to take the whole front of the dash off though... no need to remove the steering wheel you can get it off with that still on.

just if anyone wants to know.. yellow wire and black wire (taped together) behind the dash are the illumination wires.. some of the lower spec pandas have the wiring, but not the bulbs fitted.. our Bianca was like that.

you may well be right.. I was quoting from memory when we had our D reg oslo grey 1000CL, just like homeys

I remember asking the local FIAT dealer and the Owner of the place tried 1 in the showroom = "no glow..!!" (n)

perhaps the later Mk 2's has provision,
the earliest did NOT..hence the 750's lack of it..

just my thoughts..,
never bothered to look any deeper, as it was obvious enough with 2 x long levers and 1 short ( fan) IIRC,

Charlie

:yeahthat:
I have lights behind my fog light/rear wiper etc buttons but none behind heater controls, can you install a light behind them?

Iirc all Panda's have the wiring there, just need the illumination pack to screw on the back of the switches and a bulb.

Just spent half hour looking for the pics I posted ages back of them, but can't find them :bang:

Ta Dragon Man, I knew we(well you- I watched ;)) messed around and got the pod bit illuminated.
I noticed the new headlight switch I fitted has a hole for a bulb in it, it really is the heater contols that could do with the back lighting though, tricky enough to get the heating/demisting right when you can see the controls - impossible when you can't.
As work is a 30min drive (on twisty b roads) leaving it in a fixed position doesn't work (I've tried that) gets too hot and stuffy for me and I end up faffing around in the dark opening vents and windows, moving the wrong levers and generally being distracted.
If anyone has the bits to remedy my dark controls be it bulb holders or a replacement dash they could part with I would be very grateful and may even give you some petrol/beer tokens for your trouble.
Otherwise I fear that Fizzles daily commuting duties may be coming to an end for safety and comfort reasons.
I've ordered a couple of sets of interior light led bulbs for now, I like the idea of red illumination or even orange to match the stereo, I may even go mad and commission a in dash disco :)

I'm hoping to get the Alfa seats fitted with enough extra height to allow mum to get in and out of Fizzle easily (the drivers seat is height adjustable - I wonder if that could be used for the passenger seat instead?).

If that works the mk3 will go to satisfy the driveway quota of 2 cars, I'll worry about the Y10 later.

Don't think so, recently put illuminated switches in Grumbleweed and I had to change the entire dash front as the old one didn't have space to even fit the bulb unit. Seem to remember I had to splice the wiring in from the back of the ciggy lighter illumination too. Wiring was there when I fitted the illumination to the fog/ rear wiper etc buttons but not the heater controls.

sounds a right pain to do, especially as it's the heater controls that really need the illumination.

I may just get an led on a bendy stick that plugs into the cig lighter instead ;)

Having said all that, have a look behind the dash on Fizzle. Mine came off Scruffbag who was about the same age as Fizzle and had the illumination so could be an age thing. May have been an option at that time but just not there on the earlier models.

I will check Char' later as I need to remove the dash anyway. She has illuminated buttons for fog light/rear wiper etc but not for heater controls so will see if a bulb holder is there.

I've bought some chavvy lights, 4 very small self adhesive lights powered from the cig lighter, I can either fix them inside or on the dash - or even have them lighting up anywhere else I fancy, or even splice them into the internal wiring if they are any good.

Nice little project for when the wind stops howling a gale around my trousers. Note to self: no more sprouts for me.

Sprouts......you've peaked to early, it's tomorrow. Unless it sprouts today, turkey tomorrow, roast pots boxing day etc.... You should have finished the dinner by Easter.

Unfortunately sprouts are on the menu daily whilst cheap and in season

I eat my own body weight in trimmings tommorrow though :slayer:

Hi everyone!

Thought I'd give a little update, since I last posted mum has been in hospital, home and now she's back in again. I've been unable to work as I've been looking after her. All the projects fizzle/4x4/Y10 are on hold for now as I've no income to fund them. Hopefully when mum and the weathers better I can get back on with them all by trading in the mk3. At the moment it's the only vehicle mum can get in and out of easily until I get fizzles seats changed. It's been a very difficult time as apart from mum being so ill I was very happy working and was devastated not to be kept on but I wouldn't have been able to support mum's care needs working full time so it's been for the best really. I've not given up hope of having the fleet altogether on the drive if not the road at some point. Mum's having a procedure later this week and hopefully will be home again soon.

Best wishes

John
