General Finally over 50 mpg

Currently reading:
General Finally over 50 mpg

best MPG appears to be at 2 to 2.5 thousand RPM,

changing down can make the figures better..

do you like the "character" of the TA though..??;)

Hi Charlie,

Well at first I thought it sounded like a VW Beetle, the old one :yuck: Now though I quite like it, sounds rorty. It drives well, doesn't seem to have any holes in the power band, zips along quite nicely.

I do question the wisdom behind all these small engines that are currently in fashion though. I can't help thinking that a well designed larger engine is more efficient overall than a small one that has to be turbocharged.

My Punto is certainly "rorty" = it's a bit intrusive at M-way speeds, but about right on A roads:)

having owned a Tipo in both 1.4 petrol , and 1929 TD ,
I can certainly attest to the joy of a decent power to weight ratio..or in the 1.4's case - having to gear it down to drag the body around - naff performance AND poor MPG - god only know what the 1.1 would've been like:rolleyes:

I'd not driven one - but suspect the larger petrol engines Uno's were about right,

Spent yesterday in Kirkby Malham for a fell/trail race which the Fuhrer enjoyed immensely despite foul weather. Po topped 6,000 miles and averaged 36 on the way there (driving shall we say "enthusiastically") and 45 on the way back, far more relaxed, kept the revs below 3k and speed between 50-65. Certainly seems to be a sweet spot and woe betide if you venture beyond it.

Still I didn't buy the Panda for its parsimony, I would have bought the diseasil if that was a worry. Just near Gisburn yesterday I spotted an Antarctica complete with boat on the roof being used as its maker intended?
