camshaft is worn... :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang: why o why? how much €€€€€ for that?

actually... camshaft(S)... both.

Henk from barchettaparts has probably a pair in stock for you.

too much expensive for shipping... i ask here in fiat dealer for new ones... 400€ piece... 800€ both cams. Es ist nicht normal.

i will take second handed from coupe, same engine. just need to check if is "euro2" engine created until 2000 year.

variator - changed
both cams - changed
all sealings - changed
16 hydro lifters- changed
servo belt - changed
credit card - charged for 550€

Cheers for the clip! Often wondered what my car should sound like..

here is another video

first 5 sec - old rattle sound with broken variator
second 5 seconds - after all was changed -- perfect sound
last 5 seconds - after 4 days it start to make that noise, servise guy suspect hydraulic tappets broke or something... also i suspect oil pump and 5w40 oil... maybe i should put 10w40... not sure... :bang::bang:

it looks crankshaft is also dead... :bang::bang:

Certainly doesn't sound like the crankshaft and/or bearings are worn. Sounds more like small ends or hydraulic tappets.

Why did you change the cams and tappets?

no this sound is not from crankshaft... that tapping it from hydraulic tappets, but few days later when I press gas pedal sounds like "chewing hard biscuits"... krkrkkshhsksh... and bad crankshaft cause not lubricate hydraulic tappets and camshaft... so i think all problems starts from crankshaft. it's possible to abrade it and put new bearing shells, piston rings... fuuuu... €€€€€... i think 400€ all this...

i will try to record that sound, this is something i never heard... and blue smoke is going out exhaust.

i was planing only to change variator but... i change cams because they were "roundshafts" not "camshafts" there were no "cams" on them... i will post some pictures.

I don't see how the crank has anything to do with this.

Think it through. You have had cams and variator changed. Nobody's been near the crank and that was fine before. 'Bad crankshaft' - whatever that means - isn't the problem.

It sounds like the cams were either not timed correctly or not shimmed correctly. In the video it just sounds like a clearance issue, probably some or all of the gaps are too big. However if you now have a major mechanical noise it sounds like it was a cam timing issue. You probably now have a bunch of bent valves, and maybe a ruined head. At tickover you were probably just getting very minor touching of components. Also was the head removed? Maybe the head gasket was put on the wrong way round (or was the wrong gasket) and some oilways are not clear.

If all the bits you have listed only cost 550 Euro it sounds like you have probably replaced your worn cams with someone else's worn cams! That sounds too cheap.

If yours doesn't, I'd go to a mechanic who knows what he's doing on Fiat engines. And get him to time the cams properly.

i see... but on video is not that sound... i have to record new, how is now. it's completely different than any sound on video. and happened only when pressing gas pedal, on idle sounds ok.

I think instead of mucking around taking a video of an engine slowly self-destructing I'd be taking the head off to have a look at what, if any, damage may have been done. If something is wrong then every time you restart the engine you could be making it worse.
