Hi all!

My girlfriend bought a base spec fiat panda 169 with the 1.1 petrol engine and unfortunately it lacks power steering. I was wondering if it would be possible to retrofit the car with a basic EPS (not necessarily the city one). I was thinking to get a steering column with eps and make a custom wiring harness for it, fuse it and good to go, however I cannot find much online. Any ideas if it can be done and if so what would be a good starting point?

Thanks in advance!

Mechanically there not much difference

Rack and column I believe, the rest is the same

It also needs to read the ABS module, am guessing yours doesn't have ABS

It also needs to be wired into two different networks, powers and grounds

Then a proxi alignment done, assuming it doesn't need a different body computer

Sorry but unless you know electronics it's probably a none starter

Thanks a lot!

I am comfortable with electronics, but at first glance it just seemed to be way easier. Since the car doesn't have ABS, how would that work? Is there a way to bypass that requirement? And what do you mean by two different networks, powers and grounds?

Nope the EPS is proportional to the road speed determined from the front left ABS sensor in the UK

Wheel bearings, knuckles, sensors, ABS pump, rack, column and so on

All the bit will cost more than 2003 panda is worth

Cheaper to buy another car in my opinion

All the different modules abs, esp, abs,ECU, communicate back to the body computer via a slow and fast network one is a spoke configuration the other daisy chained

Thanks for the quick answer!

Will keep the car as is for now, maybe inflate the tires a bit more and visit the gym more often. 🤣

The go to for car modifiers is the EPS out of a Toyota prius as when disconnected from everything else in the car it continues to work and provide powersteering if you are handy with a bit of fabrication this maybe easier than trying to rewire a whole car.
