Good morning. Yesterday whilst pulling out of a side road my 2015 500L shuddered, beeped and the engine symbol came on (EOBD/injection failure).
I pulled over turned off engine for a few minutes but it stayed on. I wasnt far from home so continued to drive. Drove ok other than it didnt have any oomph to it.
My husband checked when home and the lights had gone out.
Driving to work this monring and whilst pulling away from sitting in traffic, it done exactly the same thing. As I was on motorway I continued to drive. It was definately holding back on oomph and almost felt like i wouldnt get up a hill.
Incidently both time this has happened the start/stop unavaliable message came on the control panel.

It is due a service (which I have just brought forward to next week) Jan, and change engine oil light came on a week ago, but the local fiat garage advised this was ok to drive and was just an indicator that service was due.

Can anyone tell me please is this a big problem? is it going to be really expensive?
Thank you

Hi,

Welcome to Fiat Forum.

It's impossible to say what is going on or if it is a big issue without more information or looking at the car. The lack of oomph indicates it is going into limp mode. I recommend you minimise driving it until you get it looked at. If it is something like a timing belt slipped or lost a tooth it could go completly and cause more damage. The first thing is to get a diagnostic computer on it, ideally by a Fiat garage or specialist.

Hi
Thank you for your reply. Had the RAC out today. He said that on diagnostic said high pressure fuel system alinement or adjustment incorrect. Whatever that means ??*♀️. He did seem to think it was major, but I dont know.

Hmm, That could be a faulty sensor, regulator, pump or bad connection. Could also be bad fuel. Did you refuel the car shortly before the fault appeared?

Hi thank you for replying. I had actually refuelled at a shell garage about 15minutes prior to the first time this happened. Could be coincidence.
Thank you.

Are you sure you put diesel into the car? Check the receipt if you have it. Putting petrol in could cause these symptoms. If you don't have a receipt have a sniff at the fuel filler to see if it smells of petrol at all. If you have put petrol in don't start the engine. If you put a lot of petrol in a empty tank it could quite bad.

Hi :)

The fuel is pumped up from the tank into a 'rail' ( big tube..) where it is pressurised for the injectors..

So it can then be squirted into the engine..

Thats the basics :)

The pressurised rail has many things controlling it..

Sensors telling other parts when to start:stop pumping to keep in the correct pressure range

Petrols and Diesels employ similar technology now..
And if the sensors give odd readings.. it will minimise power to save damage

Thats essentially what you have seen ;)

If you are based near an Alfa Romeo : fiat specialist you can probably get it diagnosed relatively easily..and cheaply :)

fiat dealers tend to charge £100 just to plug it in..
