Hi, I can't seem to find a solution to this and wondering if anyone knows or has advice on how to fix.

I have a car I share with family and they have not fueled it recently but still been driving it and it went on amber fuel before they parked it last.

They went to start again yesterday and it won't turnover. It's like it's just about to catch but never does.

I made them go get fuel in a can and refuel it (diesel) to try again and it just won't turn over.

I notice there might be something else needed to do for diesel engines in general when they have been fuel starved. Does anyone have any specific instruction or advice on how to start a 500 L 2014 diesel engine after not being fueled.

I live in UK if that makes a difference on the model/location of things etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When you 1st turn the key.. You should hear a whirring under the back seat.. A pump in the tank, that pushes fuel to the engine

Cycle that pump a few times.. Key on and off @10 second intervals

Then..

Turn key, watch glowplug symbol go on then off,

Depress clutch with left foot

Turn key further, motor will rotate.. Do this for 5 seconds.. If no running, depress accelerator with your right foot,

Keep the motor turning

It may take a few more seconds to stutter into life
(had this with a VW last year..)

Good luck!

Awesome will try that, thank you very much!

Do let us know what you find.. 👍
Hey thanks for the advice. Tried it, and unfortunately it's not worked. It might be the battery or something else as it now won't even give me anything when turning the ignition.

The dashboard will come on as usual but the engine is like spluttering for maybe half a second if that and then switching off.

I think it might be a coincidence that the fuel level was low and that was a red herring to me initially, unsure tbh.

It has also happened after a particularly heavy downpour of rain yesterday and I'm thinking this may have something to do with it.

Any other ideas apart from maybe battery and or wires?

Battery now..

Another potential is the Big Black cable from Battery Negative to Chassis then Gearbox

This is the main Earth Cable

They can "Rot" internally,

So not allowing power to glow well, and upsetting things..
There Is a test with a jumplead / jumpercable

Do you have access to these cables?

Hey

I have a jump box that I have access to. Can you use the same test with that?

Thanks for your help again

That should get it started now, 👍
(same technique as above)

But you want a dedicated

Clip-cable - Clip. Ste jump lead to replicate the main earth cable

Where is this car.. Somebody may be based near you.. 🤔
