My engine has just lost compression so I’m reading with interest the difficulty of finding another engine as I’ve heard from another mechanic who tried to rebuild one and said it was a nightmare, and soooo expensive getting parts he would t do it. But would put a new engine in for me if I could find one, but said good luck doing that.

What engine..and what year ?

Thanks for all the just get it reconditioned comments, only the first mechanic said absolutely no way, had a horrendous, and very expensive job getting parts, and the other one didn’t look overjoyed as he said he’d rebuilt one before as well. Plus they seem rather difficult to come by.
Any guiders appreciated, love the car so one way or another it’s getting done.
 
Don't go to a garage for an engine refurb
I had mine done a workshop that deals with just engine refurbs and rebuilds.
Once my engine was removed buy my local garage the refurb company picked the engine up and returned it back all lovely and fixed, took around a week from start to finish

Well, four years after the engine swap, here’s an update on the Bianco Gelatto. The engine is still in good health and has now clocked over 60,000 kilometres. On the other hand, it’s about time to retire the Panda—it’s now a bit too small for my luggage needs. I’m thinking of replacing it with another Cross, this time the Tipo SW Cross in the same colour, petrol-powered.

Thanks for that. This is probablly the last new car (or indeed any car) that I shall buy, so if it doesn't rot, at the rate i am using it, (7700 miles in about 2 1/2 years) it will see me out. Also nice to know that it is likely to free up more and become even more fun then I am happy.:)
Mine has just passed 25000 and its problem is that it goes like the wind, VERY easily and I have to make sure eco is ON when on the motorway to restrain it. I only switch it on going up hills or if pulling out to overtake at lower speed or ifind its doing indicated 90mph! Thats 84, but still too fast for a driving license.

The Panda and mito are noticeably down on power.. By Comparison..

Unfortunately age is now showing with the Punto destined to be a "keeper" (13 years this weekend..)

I bought this car because it was supposed to be the 90HP.... It isnt, but its a country mile apart from my 2017 car which was a bit of a sloth really by comparrison. I think the engineeers have played about with the software and produced many iterations. This last month I have been using the fullavailable oomph Noop produces, rather a lot, going very fast and generally belting about. I have also been pulling the trailer with a decent amount of weight in it as well a fair bit. It's averaged a measly 37.6mpg where my normal style of driving which is formed around FEAR of the uniair and DMF sees 44-50 doing local work and over 50 on a run. This car will easily get to 70mph on the slip road of any dua lcarriageway, even those that ramp up on the M62, 'PT' my first TA, wouldnt make 60 although never felt as if it was faulty it was just more like you would expect an 875 two pot to feel. Noop feels gutsy more like a conventional 2 litre and will, and does clearly give people in much larger engined cars quite a suprise on occasion while not trying. Im afraid I find it childishly amusing to hear how hard the Audis are revving when they decide they have to make a point and pass at any cost. One day I will grow up. Probably when Beelzebub is giving me my drink of boiling pooh!
