Does your emission system do Regens, it may say in handbook? Though usually that has the effect of increasing oil level due to unburnt diesel, although more on higher mileage vehicles and you can smell the diesel on the dipstick.
Was there any smoke? Usually if no oil leaks then engine has to be burning the oil , so smoking out exhaust.
No other symptoms, warning lights, engine overheating etc.?
Maybe other Forum Members will have a suggestion.

When oil is changed, are all the service parameters being reset?

I didnt to be honest , i topped it up last week was low and now its showing about 3/4 on dip stick from full
Try and measure on level ground and after it has stopped for a certain amount of time so same each time you check.
I used to have a vehicle that never used a drop of oil around town , but a good blast down the motorway would use half a litre or so.

I got my 2012 1.3 mtj around 18 months ago. Did a service oil filters etc and kept a check on the oil usage probably every month to start with. For the first 6 months or so there was no sign of using any oil at all. I do probably 70% city drive and 30% rural, say 20-50 miles from base so hopefully it getting it regen done on these run outs.

I thought all was good until a 300-mile motorway trip around 6 months ago. When I got home, I noticed that the oil level had dropped critically low. I topped the oil back up but noticed that it was kicking out smoke but only during certain times.

I friend came to help out and noticed a few pipes/hoses were worn and some were not even engaged. He said I don’t know how this is still running. Sorry I don’t know the names of theses hoses but they got repaired, I’m no mechanic but willing to get my hands dirty.

It’s just had new oil and filter and I will be monitoring the levels.

Hopefully I haven’t done serious damage when I ran the oil dry?

The danger when oil runs low is the engine gets hotter and the oil protection is reduced meaning increased wear on piston/rings and cylinder bores, plus obviously engine bearings etc. Long term this will cause even higher oil consumption.
Another aspect is the poor cylinder/piston seal results in lower compression, reduced fuel economy and in colder weather harder starting.
All you can do is monitor things and make sure good quality oil at the correct level is maintained. Another point is this is a small engine working hard with I suspect a five speed gearbox, so if driven at motorway speeds regularly these issues will only get worse.
I also own a 2014 Vauxhall Combo 1.3 MJ five speed, ideally I try to keep engine revs in the 2000-3000rpm area so engine not working too hard, tricky on motorways.:(
Yes, vehicle is capable of 80mph, but far happier at 60mph, especially with only five gears. My 1.6 Doblo with six gears is a far more relaxed drive.
One other point that may be worth checking is if any wear in the turbo as that can increase oil consumption when under load via the impeller bearings. This would show as oil in intercooler or hoses going to the inlet manifold.

Tough engines. My garage failed to reill after oil change!!!! I drove 300 miles, albeit gently with only mist in the system and there was no ill effect after wards so if it has a level on the dipstick it will be OK. Dont make a habit of it. On out old Seat there was a PCV that allowed oil to get away, but only it seemed when on the open road. It never smoked and appeared not to leak but my did it drink oil in the last few years of its service life.

Thanks

I am hoping that piston rings are ok. I am looking to buy a used turbo in anticipation of what you said.

You are right, this is only a small 1.3 engine and through driving on the motorway I have got used to the feel of it and it does not like going over 60mpg for very long. My last van was a vivaro 2.0. it did not use any oil and happily sat on the motorway at 70ish all day long. Of course, these vans like others have their own faults to be aware of.

I read many years ago that you should always check oil and fluids before any long journey. Like a fool I didn’t but I wont make this mistake again.

I did have a 2litre Fiat Scudo six speed and at 60mph 2000rpm it was a relaxed drive.

Thinking back my earlier 2.8 Sofim engined Iveco Daily's being much more slow revving but with loads of torque could also cruise at 60mph whilst towing 3.5 tonne, although admittedly lower fuel economy.:)
