Hi, we have a Fiat Ducato Camper 2.3 multijet 2 that has just developed a fault. I,ve connected it to my code reader and it is showing P2111 - throttle actuator control system stuck open. My question being is it an easy fix or a garage job. Thanks for any replies.

No it hasn't.
It's a 2017 camper van with only 4200 miles on the clock, still under warranty from where i bought it, so I'll ring warranty company tomorrow morning. Started fine this morning and revs ok but don't want to take it long distance. Checked all connections on throttle body look ok.

Just to give you an update had the van repaired under warranty, the problem being that water had got into the throttle body and onto the circuit board, connector was also corroded, how this has happened I have no idea. Any thoughts would be most welcome.

A good start would be to check that the three drain tubes in the scuttle panel are not blocked, which I bet they may well be if the van has been standing for any length of time as the age and mileage you quote suggests. Leaves and other things carried by wind and falling onto the vehicle then washing into the drains during rainfall can block them over time.

I have fitted some plastic mesh "filters" into mine, by rolling plastic mesh sheet into a cylinder the same diameter as the top of the drain holes, and pinching the top edges together with a cable tie. They can't fall down the tubes as there is a lip in each drain hole about an inch below the scuttle where the diameter narrows for the hose connections.

Even so, I remove the "filters" to wash them out and rod out the drain tubes with electricians draw tape every 6 months or so. Don't use anything sharp or stiff though, as you could risk damaging the tubes. You can check how well the drains are working by pouring water into them from a jug or watering can.

But 4,200 miles in 3 years does suggest the van has been sitting around a lot, and even condensation that's not being regularly evaporated by the heat of the engine can creep in and cause damage.

I treat all underbonnet wiring connectors on my MH with spray-on damp start annually, the type that forms a thin plastic protective coating rather than the type designed simply to drive moisture out.

Thanks for your help don't want the same to happen again.

Cheers

The throttle valve wiring block connector would fill up with water, corroding the terminals, a good clean up and soaking both sides with spray white grease, plugging together and more white grease seemed to cure the water ingress.
