Hi looking to see if anyone can help. I had noticed my oil temp on the dash had stopped moving so decided to have a look for any loose wires under the van. I found a plug hanging and a kind of obvious socket for it so plugged it in. However this has thrown up an engine management light and coil warning light and also stopped the speedometer from working. I have since unplugged it again but this hasn't resolved anything. Help?

Disconnect plug again, and replace F11 in engine bay fusebox. I suggest the use of a small 8mm socket when removing two fuebox cover retaining nuts. Take care not to drop the nuts as you remove them.

The device that you reconnected is the oil vapour heater. They are prone to going short circuit, and blowing the "Secondary Services" fuse F11, which supplies several other items including the speedometer. The heater is part of the oil vapour recovery system, and is intended to stop watar vapour in the blow by gases forming ice crystals. Generally in the UK climate, the heater is not usually necessary so OK to run without it, However Scotland is a large area, and if you live in one of the colder parts you may wish to replace the heater. For replacements Coastal Motorhomes are frequently recommended when trying to obtain spares for older vehicles. My first recourse is usually Ebay.

I have ust noticed this.
Is the above highlighted part an error. I am not aware of oil temperature indication on the 2.8jtd. I am wondering if perhaps you were referring to the coolant temperature gauge instead? In which case I should be able to point you in the right direction.

This has cleared all my warning lights and got my speedometer working again. Thank you so much for your help!!

Yes coolant temperature. The 2.8jtd has two coolant sensors quite close together. The sensor for the gauge is the larger of the two. They are located behind the intercooler pipes that run across the front of the engine and immediately to the vehicle LHS of the engine cover. Here is an example of the sensor. Note two connector blades at right angles, M16 thread, and 22mm across hexagon (spanner size). When my temperature gauge was going immediately to normal with a cold engine, I prepared to change the sensor, but found that reseating the connector fixed the problem. I added contact cleaner for good measure, and have a spare sensor in my cupboard.

Access is by either partly removing the intercooler hoses, or the complete air filter assembly. There were some excellent photos posted by another member, but I have not managed to locate them.
