engine degreese

iv just bought some engine degreaser, do i need to cover up anything like the battery when spraying down? and should i cloth some of the more stubborn oil leak stains? iv just replaced a gasket where somthing was leaking out from and everything is fine now, i just need to get rid of the access stains. i know to turn the egine on when i have sprayed down untill everything is dry, i just wounderd if i need to cover anything up, or will it be ok?

on a tin of gunk it says to cover all electrical components, go get some cling film

Try and keep the water away from the ECU and ignition leads. You may need the odd wipe or squirt of WD40 afterwards. A bucket and a paintbrush is probably better than a hosepipe.

Paintbrush or washing-up brush to scrub in the degreaser then a garden pressure sprayer to wash it off. Cillit Bang (citric acid) is great on aluminium alloy but steel/iron is better with a caustic cleaner.
