HI GUYS,
06 diesil model...... mine not playing up yet............. will just closing off the pipe 'after' the valve do the same job please?
regards
don

technically you would be breaking the law as you are altering the vehicles emission system by blanking the EGR off so it all comes down to your consious....releasing Nox gases into the air or saving yourself a few quid.

(EGR also to a degree helps keep cyl head temp down)

hi T14086
I apears a lot are blanking this off when it gets 'cloged' .......to stop it happening again ......and gain a few MPG.
I was wondering if just blanking the 'pipe' would do the same job?

don

hi T14086,
'swirl' gasket................is that the one with 3 holes in a triangle?
worth a try eh.....................

You do not need to have an EGR fitted to pass an MOT. As long as it passes the Emissions test it will be fine, you are given pretty large margins to comply with at MOT compared with manufacturers when they produce a new vehicle. There is part of the EU emissions laws that says as a manufacturer you can't produce a diesel engine without an EGR valve which is why they are fitted.
The EGR is to lower the amounts of Nitrogen oxide in the exhaust gas and the MOT emissions test does not measure the levels of this gas. . . Unquote

The above is true and there is an aurgument that the use of an EGR while theoretically reducing NOx actually increases the amount of carbon particulates.
As long as the vehicle passes the MoT test it does not matter whether it has an EGR valved or not!

cleaned EGR and blanked it off with a round metal disk at the end of the tube, has made such a big difference, runs really smooth, lots more power and i think it will be better on consumption. no smoke from the exhaust. i dont like breathing Nitrogen Oxide so am not gonna insist my uggly bug does either.

I get 450 miles ish from 61 litres, that's 33.2 mpg.
Very disappointed.
Initially the pipe connected to the eg r valve was not connected, great I thought, the answer to my poor fuel consumption.
So I made sure the eg r valve worked then connected it all back up.
Still get 33mpg.
Rubbish.
Can anyone help???

PS, disconnecting the vacuum pipe from the egr valve will leave it shut so why bother will plates and blocking things??
