Technical  EGR tubes..tech question

Ok.. long story..

Had fumes..discovered a poor seal

The offending parts are all 1 fiat EGR item :£600..!!

According to ePER..

THE FLEXI joins onto the manifold stub

With an 'Olive'..

Anybody actually swapped all this..olive included??

My olive is crimped tight.. but the flexi is now too small.. having been crimped out of position.

Im tempted to remove the stub.. but the heads were chewed also..

Oh the joy of used..

Any insights are most welcome.. :)

Yes the 'cooler' is the part I have issues with..

Those photos are very helpful.. thanks

I was warned the EGR takes @3 hours to swap.. obviously thats with fasteners that can be undone..

Now ghe weather is picking up s little.. I am going to have another go..

That stub appears different to ePER

THE CRANK IN IT.. could be an issue

Time will tell

Cheers

I think once you've split the clamped pipe and loosened the plate behind that clamped joint, the cranked pipe should riggle out, though there's little room.

There are a few vids on Youtube that may help.

Apart from the usual Fiat applications, this engine was fitted into a few Vauxhall/Opel models as well, GM called it the 1.3 CDTi, was fitted to the likes the Corsa, Meriva, Astra and Combo.
(though some will obviously have more room than others under the bonnet)

Like this one

If you have an IR thermometer, see how hot that clamp olive area becomes when in use. If its up to 250°you could seal it with silicone around the olive. If its hotter, exhaust paste might do the job.

There are a couple of soft metal gaskets that you might need to change.

A round one between the valve and cooler

An oblong one on the side of the valve .
There are less than a fiver on Ebay, you wouldn't want to do all that work and it leak, so worth having them to hand before you start.

Ive been doing that..

Its the angular mismatch thats the issue
:(

So a means of getting the tube to stub joints perpendicular ..then clamped is the aim.

Been battling this for months now.. so will be glad when its done.

Its actually a GP mj.. so space is probably better.. but its all hidden out of sight.

The prospect of uncoupling lower parts and getting the cooler and tubing on the bench is probably 1st step

So I can swage the tube mouth back to the olives dia.

Reconnect with the clamp

Then remount lower parts

Sounds easy.. ;)
