Technical ECU Unit advice please

Fiat Doblo Cargo goes to local mechanic as it cut out on the road and all electrics failed. Mechanic says ECU unit is required to the tune of £800. I say, "Erm no thanks" and arrange to uplift vehicle. Before I do he delivers vehicle, keys through door and drives off. Van looked at by another mechanic as not starting - turns out 1st Mechanic has taken out ECU unit and dumped it! Now I can't tell if it needs an "engine ECU (£423 + VAT + £50 due to old ECU not being returned to Fiat) or a "body ECU (£153 + VAT)works electric windows (didn't have any)".
How do I know which ECU unit it needs?

Don't mess about, go straight to trading standards, he has no right to remove and dispose of anything from your car.
I cannot believe the amount of people that do this to customers and in a word this must STOP and it's the customer that should take it as far as he or she can.
If it happened to me I literally would blow a fuse.

Definitely get in touch with the mechanic I'd also leave bad reviews on any Google reviews or Facebook pages he may have about his business

Dam it hate it when somebody and a pointless post to somthing for years ago and you then think it's a new topic
