Hi Guys,

New to the ducato world, so need a bit more help for now :)

Regarding my 2.8 idtd 2000 motorhome: Is it in anyway possible to consider a retrofit of a DPF (possibly with catalyst converter?) to be able to comply with any of the polution regulations being enforced by 1. july?

My concern here is, if we are not allowed in any major EU city without DPF.

In Denmark we pay an extra fee on our yearly car tax, due to lack of DPF. Enough to finance a DPF within a few years.

I found a dealer online indicating a DPF in combination with a catalyst converter, for engines without ERG, leading me to belive that it is possibel:

600

Thank you

Hi and Welcome :)

The problem with a proper functioning DPF system.. it is very complex..

It is NOT just an extra component in the exhaust ;)

To meet strict modern rules you need:

A means of reducing the soot generated
('Adblue' and better engine combustion..)

A very fine filter catching the soot particles ( the DPF )

Then a means of Heating the DPF to force 'Regeneration'
:)

It could be simpler to add battery propulsion
(Or a 650cc petrol engine in a compartment .. like BMW have done..motorcycle engine..)
;)

Here in the UK.. changes to the original build are frowned upon..

Even adding LPG systems after your vehicles first use gains you no accreditation to modern standards.

You COULD fit an in.line catalyst : filter
to your Diesel exhaust.. but it could require regular maintenance..and your access to cities could still be refused :(

Hi Charlie,

Thank you for your reply.

Yeah i see, could be very difficult to implement. Havent thought about things like regeneration of the filter etc.

Guess electric could be nice, however as it is a motorhome its both heavy and need to do a lot of miles on a single day on traveling.

yes a catalyst would not be enough, to my understanding at least.

Is a bit sad if its not possible for us to visit major cities in EU. One point i did not think of before we purchased. Motorhomes in Denmark are extremly expensive, so only these old models were within financial reach at the moment.

Thank you
