I live about a mile from a motorway. I've found a few times that mine is often regenning as I reverse into the drive, after leaving the motorway a mile ago. It's like it only got going after I left the motorway - I notice the stink wafting round the car, so go for a ten-minute blast round some country roads until it's finished.

This could all be coincidence, but my theory is that the windchill effect of doing 70mph, together with the low effort required by the engine means it will never complete while cruising - it needs lower speed and higher revs to get hot enough.

Yes, fair point. OK then, it's more likely to complete if you give it some welly. And that doesn't necessarily mean revs - it could be purring up a hill in a high gear but it's still burning fuel and getting hot.

My motorway theory may be a load of rubbish, but I've seen it happen about four times now. I believe it's less likely to finish while cruising, when the engine's not doing much and there's a 70mph wind blowing over the exhaust.

Having said all that, when I looked at the average regen times with FES it was only about ten minutes. So it's managing to finish OK, one way or another.

The Aisin 6 speed auto box has a manual override control which is better than a manual gear change. It will change in any direction to any gear that is within the practical rev range. If I'm in regen mode, and perhaps only able to do 40 mph then I change down to 3rd, aming to keep the revs around 2500 to 3000.
I always run in Instant MPG mode.
