I currently own a mk2 1.2 8v Punto and after test driving other cars, I've actually discovered I'm quite fond of the way punto's drive! Therefore, I've been looking at Grande Punto's and have seen a lot of websites claiming that the 1.9 sporting multijet is the way to go. However, I also noticed that they have DPF filters which is what worries me as I don't cover a huge amount of miles but I also do more country driving than town driving.
What I wanted to know is does it sound like I would be able to run a DPF diesel without many problems or would I be better off going for one of the turbo petrols?
My daily commute to work is 5 miles each way down 60mph country roads (only 10-15min journey) and I also drive 90 miles up the motorway every 2 weeks to stay at my girlfriends. On top of this I also do the standard small trips to shops, etc and occasional weekends away.
I know it is not a huge amount of driving (roughly 8000 a year I think) but the roads I tend to travel on are all out of towns and allow me to put my foot down a bit which is why I was thinking I might be alright. I've heard that the petrol isn't half as good as the diesel which is why I was hoping I'd be fine.
On the other hand, is it even worth buying another Punto?! I've never really had problems with my X reg other than the usual powersteering and then exhaust falling off, clunking noise when pulling off with more than 2 people in the car, tyres, etc (so not that much!) but I do enjoy driving it and I just think now I need something a bit sturdier that will happily sit on the motorway comfortably and also something with a bit of acceleration around the country lanes!
