Ducato Difficulty Starting.

Have Ducato Camper van
Not started for 2 weeks., Van has new battery and starter motor. Engine turns over fast but not starting. Faults like abs and other things coming up on the screen. Had the same problem last year and seemed to clear itself. Could this be anything to do with the central locking. Information required please. Will be much appreciated.

You have not given the year of your vehicle.

If it is post 2006, that is an x250 model, the engine earthing strap on such vehicles has a reputation for internal corrosion, and causing numerous warnings.


To eliminate this possible cause, try connecting a jump lead between battery negative and an engine lifting lug or similar clean point on the engine block.

The key has :
a battery.. for remote door lock operation

A chip .. for immobiliser operation

Does the immobiliser symbol appear for a few seconds..then go out ? Around 5 seconds

Do you hear the fuel pump prime then stop..
Around 10 seconds

After fuel is delivered you then consider igniting the fuel
