We are supposed to use the little strap on the inside to shut the boot.

I rarely do though

It's a poor design much rather have a handle or recessed handle as on our Mazda?

I don't know if this is any help to you. It shows how to change the slave cylinder. How to use existing pipe work rather than dabble with the dreaded quick connector and a bit about bleeding:
