so i should concentrate on weights for abit.

i just don't want to put on the fat, that i may do if i stop my running and my rowing.

cause thats what i enjoy the most of my time at the gym.

the reason u arent gettin bigger is cause u are burnin way way too many calories running!!!

Mase said it all in this really. By doing so much running, you burn all the excess calories off and leave nothing for the muscles to use for building. I think it works in the way that the tired muscle uses the calories to repair the muscle and you have taken that away with the running.
In saying that, just cut the running down as apposed to cut it out coz it's good for your overall fitness.
When i go, i do 30 minutes cardio (to loose the belly etc.) as my warm up. When i am happy with no gut, i do half that, and use the machines to strech the muscles as apposed to give me a cardio workout.
You will only go fat if you over eat and take in too many calories, the main thing is to have a good diet, one thing i don't!
Also when you start to gain muscle mass, 1 pound of muscle burns off more than 1 pound of fat anyway.

Speaking of diet's... If anyone could help me improve mine it'd be very much appreciated. I am going to try and start with eating 3 times daily, but i have no idea what to eat instead!!

Cheers,

Carl.

the best thing for you to have is a light or small breakfast, like a croissant or toast or cereal.

Then have something big for lunch. This could be your big meal of the day Then you have the rest of the day to digest it. And it also decreases the chances of heart ache or indigestion.

at tea time have something like a sandwich or something light. That way you wont have indigestion at night and your body won't be burning off so much fat in the evening and when you sleep.

Also try to drink 8 to 10 glassess of water a day. When you wee it should be clear the yellower it is means there is less water in your diet and more of a poisonous substance known as Urea in your system and in your bladder and thats bad for you.

And you could attempt to drink less alcohol and if you smoke, attempt to smoke less.

I couldn't be arsed reading all 5 pages of the thread, so I'll just chip in here!

Creatine does work, but like anything when trying to get big, you can't just sit back and expect to grow!

1. Train

2. Eat

3. Rest

If you're after getting big, train 3 or 4 times at the most per week and keep the sessions to 45 minutes. After training, consume a good quality post workout drink (Like CNP's Pro Recover). Stick to basic excerises, if your not deadlifting and squating, then go join Fitness First.

You need to get in loads of quality protein and complex carbs, chicken, beef, eggs, fish (not tuna) or a shake. Every 2 - 3 hours. No excuses.

And rest. It's great going out on a Saturday with your tight top on showing off, but a load of booze / pills and lack of sleep do zero for gains.

Supplements. If you only have one supplement, make sure it's a quality post workout drink (simple sugars and protein), there's a "window of opportunity" after training, use it. Others such as creatine, try 6 weeks on / 4 off, in the 4 off, try something like Tribulus, a natural testosterone booster.

Find a quality supplement shop with staff who know what they're talking about (easier said then done!).

Train hard, eat well and you'll grow.

to be honest mate i couldnt of put it better myself!

i will say one thing about test boosters and such like tho! remember a guys body grows untill u are about 21-23, so i personally wouldnt reccomend test / hormone boosters untill mid to late twenties, only cause your body is still producing a really high ammount and is growing all the time anyway, adding hormones can screw the balance, and wouldnt be as effective as on someone who has totally stopped growing!

mase's advice for size growth:
- eat as many good calories as u can (complex carbs, proteins)
- keep your fat intake down to less than 70g a day, and saturated fat down to less than 15g a day to ensure u are puttin on muscle not fat!
- train with short sets (8ish reps) and as heavy a weight as u can lift with good form
- keep the calorie sapping CV work to a minimum! u need all those calories to feed your mucsles
- get a good quality high protein / carb shake in you about half hour after a work out!
- stick with it.... rome wasnt built in a day! ;)

cheers dillinger39!!

I don't smoke and rarely drink, this year, i have never had more than 2 drinks a week (Cant afford to go out yet!!!! even then it will stay the same levels).
I'm great at giving advice and crap on taking my own!!!!
I'll give it a shot and i'm starting the gym next weekend (gf's 21st this weekend!!) plan to do 4 weeks sat/sun to get body used to training, then 3 times a week 2 body parts a day loose the belly and get my strength back.
I was lucky in the gym, i built strength and got noticibly bigger without trying to get big. In 6 months went from a loose 14" collar to a tight 16"!!!
For me i noticed my strength more, lifting "heavy" syrup boxes and nearly threw it through the roof i'd got that much more!!!! Thats the kind of thing i wanna get back into.

Cheers for the diet help... Now just need to get up on time for breakie!

okay

went to the gym today and tried the pyramid building exercise on me biceps and triceps.

gosh it did not half make me tired

Try this way, I'll use chest as the example:

Say you're usual bench is 80kgs, warm up, then do 1 set @ 30, 1 @ 50 then your max set @ 80.

Next set, 1 @ 50% max weight, then 1 set @ max

Next set, same as above

Next set.....NO!!! You've done enough, move on to another body part!!!

After a good warm up, doing 1 set @ 50% is a good way to assimilate the body, then boom, your heavy set.

Pyramid sets are OK, but you can fatigue the muscle too soon. Save drop sets, supersets, forced reps etc for one offs ever now and then.

An example, this week I did 10 sets x 10 reps for legs, Monday and Tuesday I could barely walk (I'm not kidding). It's a shock for the body, but I won't do it again for a long time.
