If a mask only even stops you putting your filthy finger up your nose or in your gob then surely it must be some help..........

Experts on tv say if the mask is worn for too long it can become damp, it then becomes more of a risk than no mask. with some places limiting staff to only 2 masks a day then changing them when needed cant be done.:(

yep, or if you touch the mask with contaminated hands then you can breath the pathogens in and out for a long time to your hearts content... just to make sure you get a proper dose.

Unless I'm working directly with people, with the virus, I won't be using masks.

As far as face masks go. I'd be very wary (especially if you have a beard). For my job as a bricklayer/stonemason, I have a proper, almost gasmask style mask. That I've been "face fitted" for. Face fitting is done by having your mask on &a Ned Kelly type bin/bucket over your head. After which a bitter tasting spray is administered. If you can taste it your mask don't fit properly. How big a particle of the spray is compared to a spore of the virus I don't know. But from what I've seen on TV & the way folks are waring their masks. I think they're more of a placebo effect. If you've got a beard don't bother with a mask you're most likely wasting your time. I feel for our NHS staff & all hospital workers around the world. There seems to be plenty of them contracting the virus. I know they're in the frontline, but I think their kit leaves a lot to be desired. Stewy

Most masks do help prevent spreading though, like most supermarkets are handing out masks because people can't be trusted not to openly sneeze, rather than to protect the wearer.

Fascial hair and masks.

Is it too much to expect people to have a shave to save their own life ???

Supermarkets handing out masks can only be a good thing.

One can never expect to be too shocked at how ignorant and selfish the population can be.

Until Granny and Granda are lying on a slab in the morgue then most will never give it serious thought..............................

So sad, but totally true :-(

Only when I saw with my own eyes that both my parents were dead did i fully comprehend that this was really going to happen. But 30 years before I had even worked in a hospital and seen a person I knew well die in front of my eyes. It was still difficult to fully grasp what would happen to my parents. There was always time and then there was not. And now many years later I have some idea that this is really going to happen to me.

Denial is just a thing we do.

We dont do things. The other guy does it.

its too little too late the time to thank them was at the last 3 general elections, only thing keeping our NHS going is the amazing people in it. for 10 years the majority of people have crapped on them same people by ignoring their pleas not to vote for more cuts.
as you can see by all the money being chucked about now the money was there when it was asked for but not given, we could have been in a much better starting position if the nhs staff had the tools to do their job.

Ever was it thus I'm afraid. Just look at our military today and compare it with a few years ago. I'm sure other examples could be thought of? I suppose the problem is that at the end of the day the magic money tree is finite.

When I was managing asbestos removal, my breathing mask (for short periods of use) was simply tested by blocking the air inlet. If air sucked in the sides you had to re-adjust. But it looked like a gas mask and was pretty claustrophobic to wear. Nobody had a beard of course.

In those days the Jetsream safety hat respirator was for non toxic dusts - very effective too. Today they are fully sealed and used in toxic environments.

Strangely EVENT 201 was a corona virus pandemic exercise in october 2019, funny how there is always an exercise before or on the day of big disasters, bombs etc.
The list of people and organizations involved makes an interesting read. You would have thought they would have been better prepared having had a dry run in october.

What?

The next severe pandemic will not only cause great illness and loss of life but could also trigger major cascading economic and societal consequences that could contribute greatly to global impact and suffering. The Event 201 pandemic exercise, conducted on October 18, 2019, vividly demonstrated a number of these important gaps in pandemic preparedness as well as some of the elements of the solutions between the public and private sectors that will be needed to fill them. The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, World Economic Forum, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation jointly propose these*recommendations.

I guess ICU stands for Intensive Care Unit ?

Native UK Guys certainly know it, not necessarily the other forumers ! Pls try to document when you use acronyms !
Best usage: use the full version early in the post, followed by its acronym in parenthesis, so it can be used further in the text ...

BRs, Bernie.
