Coronavirus - The Thread :(

Let’s be honest, my first mobile was 1998 and definitely didn’t do internet stuff, I think the first internet phone I had was “Wap” in about 2001 and it wasn’t till circa 2007/8 that proper smart phones appeared so realistically you’re harking back to a day that was maybe 10 years ago? We had broadband 10 years ago but it was slow and no ones phone connected to it!
Couldn't actually tell you when I bought my mobile phone. It's an old Samsung pay as you go flip phone and only does calls and texts (think I've done 3 or 4 texts since buying it) I seem to be putting £10.00 in it every two years or so and it came free if I loaded it with a tenner at the time of purchase. I've probably put a total of maybe £40.00 in it in all the time I've had it. Don't think it's going to do the new government app for the virus will it. Which raises another issue - lots of my elderly friends have phones like this and see no need to buy a fancy new one as we don't use the facilities it can supply and don't feel any need to access them. What value this new app thingy to us then?

That is a good question,

Out of interest do you get free calls on your land line? i have a sim only contract costs me £11 a month unlimited calls (and texts) I gave up having a land line, seemed pointless

Remember the second phone I got. Initial one was so the wife could find out where I was !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Must have been 1996 I think, a Motorola that was one of the first to use a Sim card. It was the same size as a credit card and slipped in the back.
You could take it out and use in somebody else`s phone if your one went flat. Simples ...............

Remember a job we were at in North Kessock, beside Inverness, reception was that bad the phone needed 3 batteries to last the day................

Not a lot different today, damned thing I have now struggles to last a day if used to any great degree.

Long live the Nokia 3310..........

Hopefully this is allowed:

Oh well,

So that was the much awaited announcement by Boris !!

As clear as thick mud, again...........Suppose if you don`t make things clear then you avoid any blame.

Never mind. Wee Jimmy here has told us ..... Stay at home FULL STOP !!!!

I am desperate for clarification about how tradesmen like myself are going to be able to work in occupied houses again, along with other trades such as a plumber and sparky etc all working in the same kitchen or bathroom say.

The bit about construction always seems to be about big sites where controls can be a lot easier managed. Not saying it is easy but EASIER.

Any longer and I won`t want to go back to work.......................................

Yes Boris is speaking to 'the UK'
When 3 of the 4 nations are 'doing their own thing'against Westminster policy

I fully appreciate what you are saying :)

I live in Wales.. no return.. local travel only

But work in England.. back to work by weds.. free to roam (day trips..)

O.H. is home working in Wales.. running an English service... whose rules..?? :(

That's going to get worse, Boris says the English can travel so thousands of them are going to head to wales now.

Yes we are seeing lots of groups of racing cycles around here.. nothing new.. perfect terrain in Ebbw Vale
you are allowed out once a day though no obvious stipulation to a time limit ;)

Boris's rules gone tits up already ..!!!

British tourists will be able to enjoy holidays in France this summer after they were exempted from tough quarantine rules.

The UK Government yesterday confirmed it will force anyone flying into the country to remain in isolation for 14 days to stop new coronavirus infections.

People travelling between Britain and France will not face the two-week quarantine announced by the UK government last week.
France threatened at the weekend to enforce 'tit-for-tat' action against British travellers, meaning anyone from the UK would have been placed in quarantine on arrival in France.

Boris Johnson yesterday phoned French President Emmanuel Macron and agreed a mutual exemption from the measures for holidaymakers from both countries.

The two leaders said in a joint statement: 'The Prime Minister and the President agreed to work together in taking forward appropriate border measures.

'This cooperation is particularly necessary for the management of our common border.

'No quarantine measures would apply to travellers coming from France at this stage. Any measures on either side would be taken in a concerted and reciprocal manner.

Please, please let them into Wales............or else the buggers will all come to the west coast of Scotland in their vans and start climbing the hills, where they invariably fall down and break bones, for the local mountain rescue teams to then have to go and find them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quarantine !!! already it is compromised. If your a head of a country and not happy then give Boris a call and he will say that it is ok to come staright in.

What an absolute joke the " lockdown " has become. Hardly worth the bloody effort .......................
