Errr, that helps  NOT! :p

Sounds like a general speed issue tbh, who's your ISP?

Bear in mind that - having just re-installed windows - it'll be away downloading all the latest updates. I assume you've got your antivirus/spyware etc working already?

talktalk is my isp, thing is tho, its fine on the lappy, hardwired and wireless, got avg on the pc but it cant update cos it cant connect with the site, im running firefox on it.

this is getting plain weird. im on the pc now, and its going fine, still cant update avg tho, and was running shite a couple of hours ago:s

EDIT: Right, ive narrowed it down to when im trying to download updates etc.
tried to update avg - no joy
tried to install adobe flashplayer - no joy

could this be connected?

Don't know if this will help you atall but my AVG used to do that sometimes, I uninstalled it and installed the most up to date version and it has never done it since :)

And to speed firefox up .... :)

Here’s something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

I really see the difference in mine :D
