Punto (Mk2/2b) Colinf1's 2000 Mk2 8v.

Introduction

Hi all,

Heres my progree blog of my work in progress

Bought it in May,

then after a good service and wash/polish

then after i done tints...

and carbon fibre effect badges

then alloys

cc'd wing mirrors

hopefully be getting a few bits n piece to make it look like this soon

Wheels look awesome! Great finish on them. :D

I know people are constantly saying it in this thread, but you really do need colour coded bumpers, you have a spray gun at your disposal and you haven't done the one thing that'll transform the car the most :(

Great work as always, interested to see how the sanding goes on the orange peel as I have just done some this morning and I did a good job. Let me know how you get on? (y)

Cheers Rawb!

Had a go at wet sanding it, done rear 3/4 panel and it turned out good, but still a brave bit of piting in places. Then got a bit heavy handed while doing drivers door upper half, took clear coat all of so will need to redo it.

Wheels are clear coated now, thankfully no orange peel at all. Twin gold stripe on them, vinyl was only €3 in halfords, but was silver so sprayed it gold. Made a mix of 50% paint & 50% lacquer so its shinier than just base alone.

Got a good run with the weather today, nice and warm so wheels where drying at a nice rate.

Bumpers will be done at some point, hopefully next week or the week after.

great finish on the wheels mate. makes me wish i could spend money on refurbing my alloys like i had planned.
only thing i dont like so much is the gold... not because of the look as such, but cos its not perfectly circular. im not slating by any means, tbh, not many "diy-ers" would be able to get a finish even as good as that, but im a little ocd with stuff at times and it would annoy me. lol.

i think you should look into doing that for a living mate , great finish , id love to see your fiat badges in the midle have gold back ground with black fiat writeing, would look sweet ;p

Cheers wilko!

there 50%, same as sunstrip, which is just a 6inch strip cut from what was left over.

That was the 1st mod I done to the car, there only done with a roll from ebay, not too bad but a fair amount of scratches

Wetsanded the entire passenger side today, dont think my DA sander is fast enough to get the G3 paste working as good as it should.

It is far smoother to the touch, put still not alot of reflections when you look at it head on..

Looks brill, and i am loving the wheels, makes me want to add some blue to mine:p

Thats might be as shiny as its going to go with out a buffer, but it could also just look duller compared to the rest as its new paint, so the slight colour difference makes it look darker, when it fades over time it will pick up whiter reflections:)

Been 7 months now since my engine change, checked the oil level, its at 3/4 of dipstick, so it has used about 250ml in those 7 months. My other engine would have gone through at least 20 ltrs in the same amount of time.

Keeping an eye out for colour coded bumpers, as I dont wanna do my own incase the paint starts flaking off.

Got a 240v 3000rpm handheld buffer from lidl today, its not too bad, seems to work pretty well, alot better than I thought it would, but still a long way off a Pro buffer. Was only €20 so was worth a go...

Gave the car a good going over with G3 paste, at least theres a bit of a shine & reflection on the paint now!

Some long exposure shots, nice big moon out & clear around the town lights, so plenty of light for reflections...

It needs a good wash & wax now, its covered in paste splatter. Hopefully plenty of Meguires techwax to give it a bit more shine.

Had a small amount of paint left over, so re done my washer jets and decided to do the boot lock surround.

Bonnet debadge is on hold until bumpers are being done, as it will need a full respray due to fading, so will do boot lid at the same time.
