Punto (Mk2/2b) Colinf1's 2000 Mk2 8v.

Introduction

Hi all,

Heres my progree blog of my work in progress

Bought it in May,

then after a good service and wash/polish

then after i done tints...

and carbon fibre effect badges

then alloys

cc'd wing mirrors

hopefully be getting a few bits n piece to make it look like this soon

had a play in photoshop....got a bit carried away lol...

smoothed bonnet, side strips & front bumper
c'cd bumper, handles
delocked
black roof
tinted side repeater
alloys matt black with gold lip

would need a tonne of work and an even bigger tonne of money to do it...would probably need a full respray to eliminate the colour fade and repair damaged paint under each side strip...

Not sure on alloys, theres not enough of a lip on them to have anything more than 9mm stripe..

I think that looks awesome tbh. It wouldnt take too much money to do that i dont think apart from the full respray. I can pick up bumpers from a scrappy for £12 each to smooth which im going to do soon, bonnet would need a plate welded in and then smooth yourself which wouldnt be too hard to do and same with the locks and the roof just get some vinyl from ebay

what have you used to clean your car, especially the head lights they are so clean

you know you can vinyl wrap rims, and you can do it for about £20 and they dont look half bad, here's the inevitable youtube video lol

yeah but if u had a bad misjudgement and kerbed your alloys they would look apauling compared to a lil scuffed paint lol

Headlights have been sanded lightly and polished using cheap-o-scratch remover. Rest of the car is polished with meguires techwax, its the only polish I will ever use, so easy to put on/ take off, unlike turtle wax etc which leave a powdery risidue that takes ages to clear away.

I know you can vinyl wrap them in solid colours, but its almost impossible to wrap them with a continuous pattern such as carbon fibre, as the printed pattern will stretch out of shape/distort very easily.

Cant take off door strips, paint is all bad under them. took off driver side and there was 4 patches that had gone back to original primer.

You'd have to adjust your driving style/be more aware of footpaths, kerbs etc,

im jus after refurbing a set of alloys with mica pearlescent white, and if they get kerbed they have to be repainted with 2 stage paint, not a simple touch up job...

i had the same problem, i just pulled mine off to fast and took half the paint with them, but resently i just had them sprayed the same colour as the car and in my opion they look better than just taking them off, and it only cost me 20 quid , seen as you sprayed your own side skirts maby you should try doing that, i think youll be pritty happy with the results

Petrol & Cellouse lacquer do not mix. If you have refurbed alloys using rattle cans do not get petrol anywhere near them,

Happened to me yesterday while trying to brim the tank, was edging it up to the nearest € and a tiny bit dribbled out, ran down body and dripped onto wheel. Put nozzle back into pump and clean off petrol using blue roll, body work was fine, but clear coat on wheels seemed to just dissolve instantly.

Had planned to redo the alloys Gun Metal Grey with Gold lip in the coming weeks, so wasnt overly annoyed about it.
As I needed to get the gold paint mixed up for the lip, decided to redo a part the I previously had done quickly with a rattle can.
Also decided to smooth in the sideskirts, havent decide if ill take bumpstrips off yet...
Also had a bit of rust on bottom corner of drivers door that needed sorting..

You can see the patchy repair here...

I've invested in a spray gun and only use 2k now..

Debating on wheter to lose them...ive a bit of a dinge right in the middle of the drivers side 1, along with a brave bit of paint missing...im eitheir gonna take them off, or do them gold or black.

Might aswell spray the whole car lol!

Only got a few hours at the car today....

Took off the door bumpstrips, all parts where paint was damaged now smoothed off...
Rubbed down and quick prime. Have a few low spots on drivers door, there was a few chips so gonna fill them. Also had alot of chipped paint on the edge of drivers door, quick sanding & primer sorted that...

Got the paint today, so a few more spots to sort out and a clean out of garage, should be ready for spraying...
